    @Sir_Walter_Rally

Depending on if it's a network locked phone, from Sony direct etc you may need to wait. Alternatively sone Sony updates are only avaliable from the PC companion software. Connect your phone by USB.

What the fuck have google done to the external SD card on kitkat!!!

    Its fucking ridiculous.

Wondering whether to root my new s5 now.

    Plus points
    Titanium Backup
SD Card will work properly (only got a 16gb phone so this is important)
Can debloat Samdung ROM / eventually install CM - although some of the new samdung features are actually really awesome like the one handed operation mode
    Sixaxis support

    Minus Points
KNOX - this will kill my warranty and resale value, there is no way to flash back to stock
    Can't get work emails

    hmmmmm

Spotify doesn't have a graphic equaliser, nor does it have all music in the world, plus it requires a subscription fee to be ad free.

    @DiddlerDo

I can't spotify or netflix on the tube or on holiday, so I need stuff downloaded.

Pics are already on Dropbox but fifa and modern combat take up 4gb on their own!

Anyone else given Chrome Remote Desktop a go? Works as well as I'd expect, but I doubt I'll get much practical use out of it as I put my laptop to sleep when I'm not using it.

Return it. What exactly do you need an so card slot for anyway? Spotify for music, Dropbox for pictures etc.
What if you have no wifi/don't want to use your data?

Hardly. I use SD cards a lot as I only have 500mb of data a month, and live in an area where I barely get GPRS, let alone 3 or4G. Hence why I've not upgraded from my S2,not sure I could manage with just 16GB of local storage.

Or you live in the real world where decent mobile coverage isn't blanket 100% no matter who your provider is.

If you're a desk jockey who never goes anywhere and have constant access to good wifi, the cloud is fine. Indeed, for syncing of data/files etc, the cloud is brilliant, I typically use 3 or 4gb a month for all sorts of things, and get good/great LTE coverage 75% of the time.

For zero frustration, decent quality audio/video anywhere and all the time though, eesh, we're 10+ years away.

    Local storage FTMFW.

4G rollout should fix a lot of that as it's meant to be 98% of indoor coverage. But we shall see!

EE is a massive improvement in that regard to my previous carrier, Three. I get 3 or 4 bars of LTE in my house with EE, whereas I had to position my phone in a specific place to even accept calls with Three. Only since they went to "UltraFast" (their sub-LTE) in December though, it was fine before that.

I get frankly amazing speeds with EE though, I've had 60 down and 30 up regularly in a fair few places.

3G is very patchy where I live and Orange & Vodafone struggle getting a signal at all sometimes. It's a big town in the south east so it's not like I'm living in the woods.

Fair enough, didn't think there were places left in the UK that struggled to get 3G. I don't think I would bother with fancy new phone if I didn't have spotify, netflix, dropbox etc. always connected with unlimited data.
On my train journey from Twickenham to Waterloo every day I cant stream shit on 3G or 4G. Spotify works ok but any kind of video and its unpossible for more than 2 minutes at a time, really frustrating. And its not like that journey is in the middle of nowhere.

One of the reasons I ditched giffgaff is that unlimited internet was doing nothing for me, I have wifi at home and wifi at work, so commuting was the only time I need 3/4G and you cant stream video commuting so whats the point.

Oh and if all you do is stream video and Spotify then I think a smartphone is actually wasted on YOU my friend.

Streaming video to mobile is still flakey with a great signal, never mind when it's less than optimal. In times past I've watched footy via Sky Go on my iPad over carrier, you can have a full, strong signal and it's still unreliable. That was with EE and Three and, for one month, with Vodafone when I got a free data sim. Same applies to Netflix, it's an infrastructure problem clearly.

Much rather have a nice range of high bitrate mkv's to watch from local storage, hence why I've got a full to the gills 128gb iPad!

My partner just sent me this

"Beaming service for Beep N go, more bloatware crap. That's it, I'm rooting tonight"

:D Clever girl. Cyanogenmod still good for a SGN III

    Leave the Cities perhaps :)

Here in the Wiltshire there are entire blackspots with barely 2G and in towns you might get really slow 3G. For example at work i cannot stream Spotify, despite it saying full 3G. The networks dont really add any capacity out here so even when we do get signal it doesnt live up to its potential.

Last year on holiday in camber sands phone only managed a Edge connection which was useless. Devon wasn't much better.

I updated my HTC ONE to the latest update, since the gallery has now removed the folder where downloaded images go. Anyone else noticed that happen?

@OllyJ My HTC One is on the latest update and there's still an 'All Downloads' album in the gallery if that's what you mean.

Yeah that is what I mean, when you save an image that's where it goes. On mine it has vanished!

Ah, that is odd, I have to assume it's meant to still be there! Not sure how you'd get it back though.

It's now been replaced by the "All Downloads" folder after a reboot. which has meant I have lost many many 60' Spider-man memes. My friends will be relieved.

Download Quickpic or similar. I had a similar problem where the gallery app couldn't find the photos but this sorted it. Was on a custom rom, so assumed that was why! Or Es Explorer to find the right folder...

OK cheers, I'll have a look, just a pisser it corrupted all the files. I can see them but they are unreadable.

If you want a 'play' version then why not just install a different ROM? Without the HTC fluff.

I assume the phone bootloader can be unlocked. No research or knowledge on my part but very few android phones cannot be changed.
