Registered 14 years agoSo.
Had mine a few days now, and although apps are a little thin on the ground on the UK store, I've tried a few.
Generally it doesn't handle all 'HD' games brilliantly well tbh. Nova HD for instance doesn't manage 30 fps, but the scaled up iPhone version seems like it's a silky smooth 60 fps, is all the better for it, and plays brilliantly - especially as the HD version lacks the iPhone versions non static controls.
Geometry Wars HD is fucking awesome on the iPads screen and controls very well, and Fieldrunners looks bloody lovely.
Real Racing HD suffers from a slight frame drop but looks lovely and again plays really well on the bigger screen.
Espgaluda 2 scales quite well and again, is awesome on a nice big screen. -

Registered 13 years agoI'm waiting for Battle For Wesnoth HD... the dev should be submitting it this week.
A lot of these apps weren't tested on the device itself before release, so I'm not surprised they are iffy.
Have you used any of the non-gaming apps yet deem? Any recommendations for when i get mine (hopefully saturday!!!) -

Registered 15 years agoIn prep for receiving mine Ive already bought Wesnoth and Warpgate. Tempted by Dungeon Hunter too - not the best implementation of the higher resolution Ive heard as it's the same zoomed in view, but Im a sucker for these type of games. -

Registered 13 years agoDungeon Hunter is pretty cool, although i've only played it a bit. Wesnoth is the best game on the platform by far. And the great thing is, the dev is active on toucharcade forums, and updates the game every month or so with tonnes of new features (newest one is going to include syncing saves between iphone and ipad + faster loading times!) -

Registered 15 years agoAre there any free alternatives to Comic Zeal (£4.99)? Happy to pay for it really as I like the iPhone version, but if there's a free one that is equally good... -

There's HTMLEdit I believe, and Markup, and another one whose name escapes me. All apparently very rough around the edges at this early stage, but with promise if the developers polish them up with updates.

Registered 14 years agoSo come on then peeps, it's launch day and nary did I expect this thread to have no posts today!
Is there a list of universal apps, I want to install my ipod touch apps on there, but I'm keen to know which ones are universal. Any ideas?
Anybody played the new versionof Galcon? loved it on the tocuch.

Registered 8 years agoMirrors Edge is superb.
The BBC News app is also wicked but you need to create a US account to get it. If you don't already have one, use your 'purchase' of the app itself - it's free so you don't need a card, just a US address such as 1 Infinite Loop...
The Wired app is a great experience with a few little flaws, but worth it to see how a magazine could translate to the iPad. Won't be buying it at that price every month though!
Air Video lets you stream any format of video from your computer to your iPad, over your wifi network or even 3G. Very cool.
Pinball HD, Crosswords and Words with Friends HD (HD is getting old now) are all pretty great looking and play well.
The Comics and Marvel apps are both stunning, and make it very very tempting indeed to get into a series of something. I just cant bring myself to spend that much money on an issue and not have the physical comic to hold and keep, though. But they do look beautiful, definitely grab the apps and get a few of the free comics to try it.
And then there's the Korg iElectribe, which is a £6 software version of something that costs hundreds in the 'flesh'. It's amazing, really.
What else? I have my wish list but im just getting one thing at a time rig now, having a proper go on it. -

Instapaper/Taskpaper were both universal. Evernote and Dropbox too. Love having all my technical e-books within Dropbox and have them downloaded to the app for offline reference. -

Registered 11 years agoSo obviously you wouldn't want them merged. -
Change thread title to iPhone/Touch/iPad and then stipulate whether it's iPad only when you talk about a game/app.
What's the problem?
