I donít think McIlroy putts well enough to win at Augusta, his wedge game is appalling and he always throws one bad round in. However he does remember how to putt one tournament in every 50 so I suppose he has a chance
Chokeahontas. It goes to show though how far bombing it 320+ yards is in golf nowadays. Drive for show, putt for dough is bullshit.

I know this is hardly sticking my neck out but I think it'll be someone's maiden Major victory this weekend
    Called it

I've had a soft spot for him ever since that mug shot of him when he was off his tits. Did he win a golf?

Yeah, a billionaire sportsman overcame the adversity of nailing porn stars and doing a mountain of gak to reclaim the masters title.

    Truly a Cinderella story.

I'm all for attempting to downplay and shit on the success of already successful multimillionaire sportsmen, but this is one of the all time greatest sporting achievements.

It is. Look, I'm a golf guy and, yeah, it's some achievement.

I'm just completely tired of having him unfairly steal focus while everyone who has skin in him becoming box office again tried to will him over the line.

I've watched too many tournaments where the top of the board are playing great golf but the camera is following Tiger around while he shanks it into the carpark.

And, yeah, that's not his fault. A lot of people made a lot of money from him but I was sick of the narrative before he won and it's going to be just unbearable now.

Woods is a marketing dream (well, before all the scandals). A young, minority guy dominating a sport traditionally ruled over my middle-aged white men.

I remember before he won his first major, Nike were making a song and dance about him ('I am Tiger Woods!'). And their investment paid off, so of course they're going to push him back into the spot light a second time.

If the implication is that I'm tired of the 'return of the king' narrative because he's black you can obviously eat the corn out my arsehole, you fucking dickhead.

You're going to let him eat your arsehole out to get the corn in there?

    Have you thought this through?

I see this as more of a 'bird that flies around a rhinos arsehole' kind of transaction

@nickthegun not even close to what i meant.

I simply meant, Hamilton is one of the greats but unlikeable and

he is a marketing dream. A young, minority guy dominating a sport traditionally ruled over by middle-aged white men.

    Thats it.

Oh and you could say that the coverage fawns over Hamilton even when he isnt doing anything extraordinary, which can be exhausting.

I'm not a golf guy as such but I would tend to echo this. Can't remember which Masters it was but Tiger was like 12 over par or something and I got the impression they were filming him just so people could watch him fail

The thing is, commercially, even when he was at peak crapness, having Tiger on the card boosted an event's popularity exponentially.

And the majority of times, the footage is controlled by US broadcasters and director, who knows what their audience wants (in the US).

So, yeah. He's the biggest thing in golf by miles

I am assuming pressure from the networks is what drove the split field and timings yesterday, ahead of the incoming storm.

I expect both were factors. I have to say, I don't think anything really suffered due to that, they could do that every year. Rory reckoned those starting on the 10th have a slight disadvantage but then he would do

And it was quite nice not to fall asleep before the end.
