Registered 17 years agoWell, I was under the impression that the REVELATION with Android 2.1 was that instead of Google Maps using your data connection to trace where you are as you're driving etc. it uses GPS and therefore becomes free of charge.
Probably wrong though. -

So many things I can't be bothered to tell you.
What do you get on a JB iPhone and iPad (apart from the emulators) that you cant get from the app store?? a lot of the apps look poor, yeah the odd one would be ok like the tethering app but most arent free on that store either so buy bother? not really interested in having a different font or 5 icons in the bottom dock etc, it just seems a bit pointless nowadays to do this. Or am i missing the point? or is it just a geeky thing to do?
Early problems are being reported by those using the service. At the time of writing, both MMS and Facetime (the latter iPhone 4 only) are said to be disabled.

Edit: ah they fixed the above issue now.
Besides, even if I did it, wouldn't matter as this was a Trolly-trolly whilst you wait for your white iphone. How is that coming by the way?

Turn by turn navigation was introduced. Google maps always used GPS if available.

Generally, it's nowhere near as good as a full SatNav app. -
well the Jailbreakme.com was almost more of a case of itfuckedmyiphone4.com
it took me 2 total restores before i managed to get network again, i was actually shitting it for a while too thinking it was totally fucked.........basically i installed the Cydia and then started add some sources, then kaboom my network disappeared, i tried all the carrier setting, and all that jazz and had no joy...
in short - that will fuckin teach me.
I prayed it would work and finally i fixed it, i love you iphone 4 and will never try and corrupt you again!! -

So why have you updated it what does it offer your answer is pathetic tbh.
This site is dangerous though well not this site but others could pop up and say the same things but could fuck up the phone or ipad surely?
I can see them patching this remote way out and make it so you need to connect to a PC/Mac to do it as like this it could be a disaster in the wrong hands surely? -

Did you switch it straight off, panic and restore when the network vanished or wait for a minute to see what happened?
That happened to mine and the girlfriend's just after I installed things off Cydia. The "Vodafone-UK" bit vanished and said "Searching..." for a minute before it just reappeared again and all was fine again. -

See that little gap on the left side of the phone? Near the bottom? Remove your thumb from it and the network will be restored. -

I don't game on any handheld device. I categorically don't like the experience. (owned Gameboy, PSP, DSi, iPod Touch)
Whoa. I know people laughed at me for watching all episodes of LOST, even though I hated every season, but at least I wanted to see whether it would ever turn itself around.
Having three different handhelds, even though you don't like the portable gaming experience, that is loco.

Registered 17 years agoWell, idiots with no taste on EG kept on banging on about game this, game that for handheld x and y. So I thought perhaps it must be me.
But, after extensive research, I can categorically state that handheld gaming is less enjoyable than a crossword puzzle and doesn't even strike a match compared with a PC/console experience.
Maybe if I commuted every day of my life but I don't, and I really think it's sad sitting in the front room immersed in a tiny machine. It made me feel so enclosed and shut off from my surroundings.

Registered 13 years agoI very rarely play any games on my phone if I'm at home. Only really play in bed (fnar!) or on the toilet, as you do.
It's mostly out of the house I play the games. Whether it's being stuck in traffic on the bus, if I'm on break by myself at work or if I'm waiting for someone to meet me just to pass the time. Find it a lot more accessible than a DS (which I used to use before I got my phone). Plus a few of the games I have are playable in short bursts like Angry Birds and Flick Kick Football etc..
Like you say though, if you don't really commute a lot then there's definitely better options around the house.
You might still be a weirdo for other reasons though! -

i waited for ages, but it just carried on with the searching, even after resetting Network / soft Restore etc it was still searching, it took about 2.5 hours before i decided to do the restore....thinking back, it is possible that i didn't let one of the sources from Cydia install properly as i remember pressing the home button during the middel of it processing....
my own fault either way for jailbreaking

Registered 13 years agoBoth are fixed as far as I know.
There's a few things from Cydia that don't work on iPhone 4, there's a topic on MacRumors about that. No problems at all with mine so far (fingers crossed). -

Registered 17 years agoCool, I just rebooted mine after doing it and had a single corrupt line at the top of the screen (like a cg64 loading screen!)... Disappeared once the springboard launched.
Other than that so far so good... -

Registered 13 years agoI noticed that too. Just corrupt on either side but nothing in the middle? I think it's to do with Cydia for some reason. -

Registered 17 years agoI'm doing it as a "because you can" trial, you can always rollback. And I would like to have sbsettings back again.
Might have a look at lock screen apps as well... -

Registered 16 years agoI jailbroke my iPhone 4. After a day I got rid of it. If I had endless hours I can see the appeal of compeltely customising the look of the UI and everything, but it was all a bit too much of a headache. Stuff like SBsettings and biteSMS didn't really rock my world in any way. -

Registered 13 years agoCustomisation is the one word to sum up Jailbreaking. Little things like being able to have five icons in the bottom dock for ease.
Well there's also "free apps" but we don't talk about that. Which I just did, shit. -

Registered 19 years agoiLounge has put together a summary of recent information it has received regarding Apple's plans for the next generation of its iOS devices. Among the claims are a set of revised iPod devices possibly including a touch screen iPod shuffle, a new 7" iPad set for launch early next year at the latest, and a fifth-generation iPhone release scheduled for as soon as January.
- iPhone: The fifth-generation iPhone may be set to launch as early as January in order to address antenna issues with the iPhone 4. It is unclear whether the new iPhone would be a major redesign or simply a tweak to address the antenna problems. While not mentioned in the report, the redesign could coincide with the much-rumored Verizon iPhone highly anticipated by many potential customers.
The report also addresses the iPhone 4 bumpers, with claims that Apple may be preparing to release a new, all-silicone bumper for the iPhone 4 that would provide the company with a cheaper solution to address the device's antenna issues. The report's source also claims that Apple considered shipping the iPhone 4 with bumpers from the very beginning, implying that the company was aware of a potential antenna issue.
