Late 2008 model - 20" 2Ghz Core 2 Duo 3GB DDR2 RAM Radeon HD2400 128MB 260GB HDD = £510 The previous owner kept it in perfect condition and there's still acouple more months of AppleCare cover on it. Good price? Could anyone recommend some games that would run on the machine? Thanks! |
Just bought my first iMac!

Ignore him. The going price for that Mac is around £450-460 and if it's got a couple of months Applecare left on it, all the better, plus it's in good nick (but surely it's hard to damage an aluminium iMac?). I'd say you've not been had. Enjoy it!

Registered 15 years agoSteam is coming out soon for macs so a lot more games should become available. Source games run OK on my imac (X1600 128MB ram) when ran using boot camp. Dragon Age works OK on the lowest setting. Bioshock ran ok on the lowest setting
Quake 4 and Doom 3 (mac version)should also run OK on it but avoid most 3d heavy mac ports, they are generally terrible ports.
Are you going to install boot camp? -

Registered 12 years agoIt seems all the games that are lined up to appear on Mac Steam first are FPS games, exactly the sort of game I don't want to play on my Mac. Hopefully something that doesn't involve running around with a gun will be forthcoming. -

The only game playable at this time is Portal, which as we all know, is full of win.

That's a seriously underpowered graphics card.
Late 2008? Were they really selling 128mb graphics cards in iMacs in late 2008? -

Registered 20 years agoI thought that too. My model is two years older and has a 128Mb card too. -

So very, very good. But the list of games I saw on a Mac news site today were all the usual FPS stuff like Counter Strike, HL, Left 4 Dead series etc. All awesome, don't get me wrong, but I'm quite perverse in that I prefer that sort of gaming on my sofa with a 360. I like simulation type games on a computer.

Registered 13 years agoSorry I haven't replied to this thread in a while, for reasons I can't go into the guy who sold me the iMac needs it back pronto and is refunding me my money plus £50 for wasting my time!
So I'll be going to Comet to pick up this beast tomorrow.

Lucky most (All?) Mac owners use there computers for everything but games then!
Personally I expect my computer to be able to handle Photoshop/Lightroom well and play the odd HD video, the 3Ghz iMac I'm getting will excel at that task. Games? That's what I bought a PS3 for.
