Registered 18 years agoSome tips for first time Mac owners (or mac owners ingeneral)
1 Don't buy Apple mice, they are all rubbish. (The Magic TouchPad, on the other hand, is bliss)
2 Go get the Alfred App. It is absolutely brilliant.
3 Perian is the best way to get the latest codecs up and running. -

Registered 16 years agoI'm really quite keen on the most recent mouse - very nice little device. I haven't tried a Magic Touchpad yet, but I am tempted. -
Shite for games though. -

Registered 17 years agoApart from Blizzard games and games on Steam?
I've been tempted with getting a Mac just so I can add Objective C + iDevice to my CV... but I can't quite bring myself to do it. -
What does blizzard and steam have to do with apple's shitty mice? -
defaults write .GlobalPreferences com.apple.mouse.scaling -1
defaults write .GlobalPreferences com.apple.trackpad.scaling -1 -
Can't say I've noticed it in games. -

I've only tried it at an Apple store for about 15minutes and I found it way to small for me. It was also very uncomfortable to do the gestures (other than clicking or scrolling) due to the way I hod my hand on a mouse vs. the Magic Track Pad.
TMP is really magic though. Makes me want to buy a Mac Mini and hook up to the TV so that I can do some browsing. The perfect answer to "how to navigate a Media PC on the TV" -

Registered 16 years agoI use both about 50/50 and I can honestly say its never bothered me.
Its not necessarily worse, just different. -

I do. I'm using Winblows 7 as we speak.
If you work with PCs at work and use both at home, the strange mouse behaviour on the mac really gets on your tits. The MS drivers fix the acceleration curve to the way every other OS, including OS9, has it. -

Registered 16 years agoIm sure they will take the massive freak audience into account when they release Lion. -
I wonder if it's the reason I seem to prefer mouse movement when doing artwork on a mac?
Tried this, Fluffer? -

This new lovely you is hard to get used to. -
You'll go spastic with the reverse scrolling in Lion

Registered 16 years agoI actually use the magic trackpad in the same way tonka described.
Its not as useful as airmouse but its a lot better for moving around the screen. -

Registered 16 years agoSorry, they changed the name of it from airmouse to mobile mouse, presumably to avoid a lawsuit from that fruity gizmo.

I'd not had coffee yet - was in spack mode and didn't take it in context of their crap mice.

Yeah, its cool. It knows what type of app you are in so gives you context sensitive commands.
So, for example, if you are in VLC it will give you pause, play, volume and so on.
Its a really good app. As I say, the magic trackpad is better to flick the pointer around but mobilemouse is really handy as it doubles as a proper remote.
