Pearl Harbor Trilogy

Very good graphics for a 40MB WiiWare game. Too good, probably, as indicated by the mouse cursor in the video.

    Hi Spam,

I'm Dan and I'm the PR manager for Legendo.

The game's actual engine is shown in the trailer. The mouse cursor's there because it was captured using the NDev unit which in turn runs through a PC:) A small booboo our end but I can assure you that the graphics you see in that teaser are a total representation of the game's engine.

Well the graphics are impressive. Seems to be better than Sky Crawlers, but the trailer is a bit too motion blurry to notice the ground textures. This was a weakness in Sky Crawlers.

The cell shaded like intro would make a good game too.

By the way, since you're the PR person, "highly anticipated" in the PR is wrong. By very few dedicated Legendo fans maybe, if it was announced previously at all. I know this is standard in PR but still.

    Hi Spam.

You have to take a couple of things into consideration. The Wii's no power house in terms of crunching, so sacrifices have to be made and the obvious choice are the ground textures. To keep a consistent and stable frame rate. Remember, unlike SkyCrawlers we're within a 40MB confine. Adding higher resolution textures for the ground would not only impede on fps but also on overall load times.

The game is highly anticipated believe me:). I make it my purpose to visit forums to talk about our games, answer questions and such. Take Nintendo Life for example, the game has a 15+ page thread on there full of guys hankering to get their hands on our game:). Over 3,000 views on the teaser that's on YouTube and nearly 3,000 fans on our Facebook page, not bad when you consider that although we announced the game quite some time ago, we've been playing things very close to our chest up until now. I've been trying to establish contact with the chap in charge of WiiWare here at EG for quite some time to get the trailer up and with the offer to interview us about the game but as of yet no joy.

Oh sorry I forgot to say!

As beautiful as the celshading is, the Wii simply couldn't handle textures of that resolution:(. It was the first thing I asked when saw the teaser myself! :)

I'd be interested in a Digital Foundry interview about the challenges to make a 40MB game, but I doubt DF is.

Well we'd be up for a serious interview. If they're willing to conduct one here at EF, we're more than happy!

If all the forumites that are interested in reading a piece with us, show your support here and I'll get back in touch with the staff. I'll point out that it's something that their readers would be interested in:)

I would be interested in reading more about the game, looks very good, would like to know more about the use of the Wii controls.

I have to admit that in a way Sky Crawlers sounded like a bit of a fudge, of not quite changing up an existing series for a new setting. The use of special moves to instantly get behind other planes rather than adapting their series to a missle free dogfighting style of play. It seems like it would take away from the thrills of flying WWII era fighters.

So I'd like to hear how the team went about creating that exciting dogfighting experience with this game, many thanks.

That looks pretty sweet for a 40mb limit. Good luck with the game it reminds me of the Battlestations:Midway/Pacific series. I'll have my beady eye on this and i'd be up for a DF article on the Wiiware & general DD small footprint challenge.

    I agree with this post!

I'd also be interested in finding out more about how the game plays; I assume it's more arcade rather than simulation, which suits me fine, what remains to be seen is how good the Wiimote controls are.

Looks HAWT! Will it have some strategic element to it or is it an Arcade shooter?

It's an arcade shooter. We wanted to offer the best we could visually with the game but keeping the element of fun within:)

Details on the ground are a bit low, like Sky Crawlers, but otherwise still looks good.

Very true but you have to remember the Wii's limitations sadly:)

Massive bump, just downloaded this and its bloody great although quite tough! Basically an arcade flight shooter, much like the rogue squadron games and it controls like a dream. Anyone pick this up?
