I'd like to kick this thread off by saying that I've worked for CEX for quite a few years and have noticed a trend for people complaining in various forums about the company.I'd like to create one unified thread for all of your rants about CEX. Hopefully I can answer or contribute with some honest observations from an employee, rather than the usual corporate fluff designed to make your case look like an isolated incident whilst simultaneously trying to make a fool of you. Let me finish by saying if you think being a CEX customer is a bad experience (believe me I know it is) then imagine how badly they treat employees! |

Registered 17 years agoCan you tell me why the place always smells so rancid? - That'd be my number 1 complaint.
It smells sweaty, like the windows have never been opened. -

Registered 15 years agoCEX smells and the staff (apart from one man with a beard) are sluggish and presumably all drugged up or something. -

Registered 15 years agoWhy are the queues always so long and move slower than a snail pace? How much money goes into the cash box used for buying games from customers, £10? I tried to sell a couple of games there about 4-5 times in a month and I got told there wasn't any money left for buying customer games every time.
Edit: I don't think 'snail pace' gets across how slow the queue moves actually. -

Just wondering, what CEX are you talking about? I have one like that just wondering if it was the same as yours. -

The Leeds one smells exactly the same, as does the Manchester one.
It's... odd that this is the same country-wide. -

Registered 12 years agoI like CEX's website..how they are up front about prices and exchange/cash values to and I think this is something other stores could learn from. However nearly all CEX's across the country smell, are very hot, play screamo constantly and have really lethargic staff. Getting anything from there is a much longer process than it really needs to be. -

Registered 16 years agoIt's the loud, awful music that I don't get.
I wonder if they're actually trying to keep customers away. And I also dislike the feeling that the store's full of stolen goods. -

Registered 12 years agoEvery CEX I've been (Birmingham, Merry Hill, Walsall) into smells like a locker room, plus I am always confused about how the slow/dense/retarded staff managed to get jobs in the stores.
Gotta agree that there website is pretty decent, well laid out, easy to navigate. However, I have ordered a couple of things off there in the past and they have sent me the wrong things. -

Registered 16 years agoWow. I have been in my local store just the once, and I must say that I agree with most comments here. It stunk to high heaven, the staff looked like they're either ex convicts or on parole for good behaviour...and the queue was hideously long despite there being at least three people at the counter. My word!
Given some of the posts in this thread, I'm beginning to think that this is all deliberate. -

Registered 11 years agoIn fairness I can see why the queue would be long. It's a shop for trade ins as well as purchases, and they can take a fair amount of time to examine the trade ins, or even if someone has brought in a lot of items. -
I bought a copy of Dungeon Seige 2 for £1.99 from the Basingstoke branch. That is my fond memory and every time the wife and I go to Festival Place we always pop in to see if I can re-live that glorious moment...well I do, the wife says it smells and goes across the street to the Cancer Research shop.
