De Gea was great tonight and RVP could have given us a great boost if the had taken THAT chance!

Great result though, I'm really glad that the 2nd leg is all to play for. I was worried that it could have been dead and buried tonight.

I wouldn't mind if that was a normal thing that happened, fact is it is far more odd for the ref to have blown up there than not. It very, very, very rarely happens that a game is blown up in those circumstances.

I would also suggest, roles reversed, the ref would absolutely not have blown it up.

Not a big fan of Phil Jones normally - he's quality but sometimes he's too headstrong and gets into trouble unnecessarily, but tonight he was ace.

Valencia was too sloppy when he came on, could've done better.

As much as it pains me, excellent result for United.

He lacked composure though, he's got the effort and engine but not the passing ability IMO

I'm not sure I've ever seen the ref blow without letting the corner be taken, maybe in the 1st half but never at the end of the game!

LOL at the De Gea save with his feet in the highlights, I missed that the first time round! Maybe he should have gloves on his feet!

De Gea and Welbeck both excellent tonight. Was there a man of the match?

Technically, if stoppage time has been played, the ref doesn't have to let teams take set pieces. Didn't see the game though.

I'm fairly certain it was 92.57 or something just as the kick was about to be taken.

I've seen it happen maybe once before I think.

Refs is supposed to allow for stoppages in time added on. Ball went out for a corner with 30 seconds on the clock so there should have been time to take the corner. Someone said it earlier but I don't think the ref gave many uniteds way and when he did it was usually 'cos the linesman was flapping his flag like a hummingbird.

Yup, he's brilliant. At least the folks on Sky seem to have woken up to the fact that he's actually not a calamity keeper after all.
He's been a great shot stopper for us, alright he's made a few errors, but I think that defence/midfield have left him exposed, particularly in the early part of the season.

IMO he has been a bit harshly criticised. Better than Barthez anyway!

    So, 3 seconds short then?

Drives me mad when refs add on time for no apparent reason it's only pens that they have to allow to be taken.

As someone else said the ball went wide with 30 seconds to go. It was definitely more than unusual for him to blow up

It was 92:58 when he blew, and it's pretty common - just not often when the game is level.

90% of the time a ref will blow as the defending team bring it out, or more commonly when the goalkeeper has launched it skyward.

And BTW, the United fans have forgotten that the ref blew up in the 4-4 draw last season as Jagielka was running into their box for a shot...
  • Deleted user 13 February 2013 22:17:18
If the ref took into account the time the ball is waiting to come into play games would last about 130 mins.

We've discussed time keeping a few times in the PL thread - it's insane that it's left entirely at the whim of the referee.

OK had the allotted time elapsed per chance?
