Anyone know when the qualifying rounds are? I'm going to be in Romania in the last few weeks of July and it would be nice to go and watch Unirea if they're playing while I'm there. |

Registered 16 years agoCan someone explain this to me? It's more complex than Alan Partridge's World Cup 94 rout to the final signpost wheel thing

There are 2 sides to the draw - Champions and non-champions. The winners of each tie go into the 4th qualifying draw with Spurs and any others that qualified that far automatically. -

Registered 15 years agoTop 5 games are between clubs from the higher ranked leagues that qualified to CL by getting in 2nd or 3rd on their leagues. The other 10 games are between the champions of the lower ranked leagues.
This all part of Platini´s plan to get smaller countries in the CL. -

Celtic, having fallen spectacularly from their last 16 adventures of a few years ago, could have faced Ajax, Braga, Fenerbahce, Dynamo Kiev or Zenit St Petersburg. With that in mind Braga doesn't seem such a raw deal.
Besides that stadium is a gimmie for headline writers: CELTIC EURO CAMPAIGN ON THE ROCKS. -

So the 5 winners of the games celtic are in the draw with there will be added to "Auxerre, Sevilla FC, Tottenham Hotspur FC, UC Sampdoria and Werder Bremen "
Then those 10 teams will be paired off but in a seeded vs nonseed way yeah? Cos we can't get Sevilla, Bermen Ajax or Zenit.
Then the 5 winners from there go into the CL as the 3rd seed teams in the groups? -

Sorry not used to all this
So the next round will have us plus these nine teams, and the ones with the * are the ones we cannot be drawn against.
Celtic OR Braga
Fenerbache OR Young Boys
Kiev OR Gent
Unirea OR Zenit*
PAOK OR Ajax*
Sampdoria
Auxerre
Sevilla*
Werder Bermen*
We're so getting Celtic. -
If Celtic even get through - Braga's home league record last season was W14 D1 L0 - with 10 clean sheets... -
Don't need to win away though unless they've changed the rules. -
Yes, well - still a tough prospect. -

They play (or did play?) at the Wankdorf Stadium. : )
My first ever European night was to watch Young Boys against Celtic in 1993. -

Fifa have also said it's up to the Premier league if they want to implement it.
The French have said they will use them -
Lennon has hinted McGeady will play tonight. Does that mean that no-one playing in Europe this season is interested in him? I think Villa have lost interest in him and the papers are saying Spartak Moscow are the only team to make a bid so far (£8m - rejected). -
They should've grabbed that £8m bid with both hands. McGeady has no end product when I've seen him. Admittedly, I'm not a Celtic fan, so don't watch him every week.
What do the Celtic fans on here think of saying no to £8m? -
Is this on TV?
I am desperate for proper football! -
Alan Hutton cost £9 million. -
You have no one to blame but your club
Why the fuck do they not want to show their home game in the UK? Are they trying to hide how shit they've got from the rest of the country or something?
I want football damn you! -

I've watched him nearly every week since he came into the team and from the blue side of the city i'd say he does have an end product. He can create and score goals, has flair, vision, skill, pace. He can hold onto the ball too much sometimes but he is the sort of player you would want on the ball in attacking situations. His attitude and form over the last season hasn't been good though and whether he is worth £8-10million i'm unsure.
So far Celtic have signed Cha Du Ri, Charlie Mulgrew, Daryl Murphy, Efrain Juarez (Mexican international), Gary Hooper, Joe Ledley and a couple others in line including Briam Kayal from Maccabi Haifa.
I'll probably try watch the game on the net later.
