Hodgson got a 0-0 against Costa Rica with his reserve team and no one was calling him a genius after it.
Costa Rica had nothing to play for in that game.

It's not even about whether LVG is literally a genius or not. Even using the the word in the hyperbolic sense, he still isn't one, or at least not for that substitution.

If he was a genius he'd have won that game in 90mins. Not like CR offered that much.

And if he wins the WC he still won't be a genius. That Dutch side - compared to everyone else - are more than capable of winning it under him or someone else.

I'm not really shitting on LVG generally. Excellent manager, and Netherlands are the most convincing team in the tournament thanks to him.

Germany v Holland would probably be the best football for a final, but Brazil v Argentina would have the most drama. The host nation on the verge of winning the tournament or their most hated rival winning the tournament from them on their home soil.

It would be tense, cagey and fairly boring as a result for neutrals. The Netherlands are the team who seem most capable of providing the dynamic, entertaining football most would hope for in a WC final.

Netherlands -v- Argentina is quite exciting for me 'cos it reminds me of '78 - the first time I became aware of the WC and what a big thing it was.

So Brazil are appealing Silva's yellow. Pretty spot on card given what he did. But expect it to be rescinded. The FIFA gods have spoken as to who they want to win this tournament.

Hopefully Germany will destroy them regardless.

I think brazil will miss neymar massively fully expect germany to win. In 2 minds about who i want in the final germany v holland or brazil v argentina.
If those are the match ups you want, I would hope for a Germany vs Holland final? I can see Brazil and Argentina battling it out just as fanatic when it is for the honor of finishing third only, but maybe I am mistaken. Holland and Germany could not care less about the 3rd or 4th place.

I hope Germany v Brazil is decided in the 90min of usual time chop, chop. I have lengthy work travel and a 3 hour presentation to do the next day and considering the match starts at 2200 local time, I would be really fatigued watching that.

But one must watch if German, the WC is only every 4 years after all!

Brazil are certain to be knocked out after their star player is banned

Brazilian teams press officer suspended for 3 games. Picked up the ban after shoving a Chilean player at half time during their match

I agree with everything superbob85 says on this page, particularly this

That's a good point the massive rivalry between holland and germany would be make for a great final. Been the 2 stand outs in the tournament.

Brilliant quote! Good to see that he can laugh about it. :D

    Love him.

I was watching one of those BBC best bits of the 2006 world cup they keep showing. In retrospect Germany were a much more exciting team under him, and I think he did a great job with USA as well. His time at Bayern didn't go brilliantly but I do think he's a manager with a lot to offer. Hope he does make to Spurs at some point. I can certainly see it happening.

Low was his assistant wasn't he? Seen some suggestion that he was behind that team more than Klinsmann...

He seems like he might be a flashier foreign version of Harry. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.
  • Deleted user 7 July 2014 14:22:01
I don't instinctively loathe him, so he's got that over 'Arry.
  • Deleted user 7 July 2014 14:23:51
    How's he like Harry?
