I played Skyrim when it came out (my first game in the series) and enjoyed it at the time but thought it was fairly clunky. It's certainly fun and an interesting world to explore but clunky, clunky as fuck. And the combat has no weight. This was on Xbox 360 so it might be much better on current consoles. For me, it's been surpassed and I'm not sure the base version stands up these days.
I’ve never played Skyrim, or really any Scrolls games. I sort of feel like I should but the longer I leave it, and it’s obviously been long, the more I think I’m just going to be disappointed.
The modded version is probably an entirely different experience. -

Registered 8 months agoTo hedben and everyone involved in the recent mod discussion: many thanks!
I’m genuinely looking forward to returning to this world for a bit.
I was considering ESO, played solo, but I’m definitely happy to go down the Skyrim route for a bit first! -

Registered 2 years agoSkyrim gives you Force Lightning very early, and I used to just walk around zapping people to death and saying “Only now, at the end, do you understand.” Otherwise it was fun until all you can see is the creaking shallowness, which is all Bethesda games. Well worth the money though. -

Registered 9 years agoThe mods do add a lot, in terms of fidelity, performance and new content, but it's still Skyrim. If that never appealed back in the x360 days I'm not sure it will be a game changer now.
I've always had a soft spot for the core Bethesda "wander off and see what you find" gameplay, mods just mean I can keep playing the game I loved years ago without it feeling too dated -

ESO is trash compared to Skyrim, and to actual trash.

Registered 9 years ago@QuickWithKnives well done on taking the plunge again! Don't forget that Alternate Start mod, some great options so even the opening doesn't feel too familiar

Registered 18 years agoOn the topic of Skyrim modding I'd also recommend Moonpath to Elsweyr, The Forgotten City and Project AHO for content mods.
I also really liked turning it into a survival game with Wet and Cold and the other mods of that kind.
And obviously Enderal once you get tired of playing in Skyrim. -

Registered 9 years agoSurvival mode was also available as one of their paid mods (albeit one that was free in the store for ages). I never understood how the massively inferior paid stuff can exist right alongside the free stuff. -

Registered 18 years agoYeah, the whole paid mods thing kinda made me go what now? Don't get me wrong, I'd be happy to pay for a mod like Enderal or Stalker Anomaly. But of course those never get monetised because the people making them actually care. -

Ultimate Skyrim is a curated list of 100's of mods that comes with it's own installer.
Worth a look if you want to heavily mod your Skyrim but don't want to do weeks of research and problem solving getting it all to work.
The difficulty is hardcore and it misses out some of the best content mods, but it leans heavily on the requiem mod which fleshes out and gives a lot more depth to combat and character progression.

Can't say I enjoyed Requiem at all.

Personally I found Morrowloot much better for de-leveling the game and you can run it with Ordinator for the fun perks and a combat mod of your choosing.
