    Revealed in Gameinformer:

In 2009, Sucker Punch Productions released Infamous, a super-powered sandbox game that was a drastic departure from the studio's well-known Sly Cooper franchise. Venturing into new territory paid off for Sucker Punch; the PS3-exclusive Infamous has sold nearly 2 million copies, providing a combination of mobility and electrical powers that makes gamers feel like a true superhero. For Infamous 2, the team hopes to raise the bar even higher. A new look for hero Cole MacGrath is just the first step; a new city, new powers, and a powerful new foe await you in Infamous 2, and you can read all about it our exclusive 10-page story.

Enjoyed the first one. Solid game and playing as evil was a lot of fun. What on earth have they done to Cole though?

Hopefully this will be one of those series where they take a half-decent game and turn it into an excellent one for the sequel.

Cole morphed from David Beckham into a chubby Ewan Mcgregor.

Actually, is that even supposed to be cole?

Yeah, so what if he's grown some hair, put on some new threads, don't humans usually do this?

The original was a very good, if underrated, game. There was plenty of room for improvement though.

Agreed. Despite it's flaws, it was one of my favourite games of 2009.

Thats shit that theyve decided to change the character. They had a kinda original design with cole last time but now theyve decided to go for what can only be described as the douchebag look. Get ready for smart-alic quips every second from this prick. Im glad he had time to put on his necklaces in the morning. Seriously, what retard thought this was a good idea ?

It's a shame they changed the voice actor too. The guy who did it in the first game was really good.

Kinda disappointed by the changes, I actually liked Cole but the new design makes him look like a dick. I don't see why they're changing the comic book style cutscenes as well, I thought they were one of the things that made the game different and worked really well with the style of the game.

Hopefully they'll refine the combat a bit though, the constant enemy spamming was the thing that really let the first game down. Hopefully there'll be a bit more scope for exploration as well, perhaps by including the sewers as part of the game world and leaving them open to move between areas.

Still looking forward to it, the first game was surprisingly good, despite looking pretty ropey in all of the previews.

It didn't sell as well as it should have done. They were (probably) forced to make some asthetic changes.

Art director Matthias Lorenz told the magazine that he gave Cole a new look in order to make him a “more appealing, more compelling main character.” In terms of his new personality, Animation Director Billy Harper mentioned that they wanted the new Cole to be “a little gritty, a little street, without the grumpiness.” They described him as an “EXTREME sports star - like Travis Pastrana, Tony Hawk or Chris Sharma - what would they be like if they had super powers.”
Ugh. source - more appealing and compelling? It just looks like SP didn't have the faith in what they were doing to stick with it.

I didn't get hugely in to Infamous, but did find it fun enough. There wasn't anything particularly wrong with it, more niggles. I thought that was a good main character, before. Then they do this. :(

I'll wait to see how it comes across in the game, there wasn't that much going for Cole design wise to begin with so it'll be interesting to see how they change it around

And there you have the reason why videogame character design is almost invariably shit.

You can be certain they never considered what 'da kidz' wanted when they were hammering out the concept for something like ICO or Shadow of the Colossus. 'Da kidz' are repellent, extreme sports stars are repellent, no prizes for guessing how your character will appeal to people who aren't 14 year old North American boys.

The character looks even more like generic video game man now. I would have preferred they used the original Cole but made him look meaner and crazier, long hair, a matted beard and a wide eyed gaze like he was on LSD. Extreme sports star sounds absolutely horrible.

I thought inFamous was average but it definitely had potential. I'll be watching this one closely while secretly longing for a new Sly Racoon game instead :-(

One thing they could incoproprate into the gameplay is the time travel abilities suggested at the end of he first game, like bullet time etc. just a thought :p

It's looking good, a big graphical upgrade over the first game.
  • Deleted user 7 June 2010 22:38:53
Woah, the graphical overhaul is impressive.

You know, looking through the artwork for the previous game I can't see the horrible and disappointing change of character that everyone is going on about. He really doesn't look that different to me...

It is possible that evil Cole has a different appearance…For a game that is based around morality choices defining the game, I would think there is a reason the scans only show good Cole

Despite loving the first game I can see why they thought the characters would need a redesign, it isn't something that'll bother me unless Cole turns into a Nathan Drake-like. Sony already have that character covered nicely, I don't need him in all of my games.
