Registered 19 years ago16 year-olds with cameras documenting parades are clearly the number one paedophile-terrorist threat, and I applaud our brave boys in blue for awkwardly and unprofessionally trying to prevent a terror-sexual outrage. -

He's 16 ;P
Either way, it's daft police trying to use fictional laws to threaten someone legally taking photos in a public place. -

Registered 16 years agoThe blogger sounds like a twat. He is blatantly out to have an argument and trying to wind the police up. Maybe the police could have dealt with him more diplomatically, but I doubt it would have changed the outcome as he sounds like he would just countinue pushing till he got the result he wanted.
It's a shame, because the police do need to be kept accountable for what they do, the public do have a right to expect to be treated lawfully and with respect. However, having some hysterical attention grabbing prick like this strutting his stuff does nothing for keeping our police accountable and undermines in the public eye others who are trying to do so.
Idiot. -

Registered 14 years agoThe fortnight ive had i wont even start on how stupid the police can be, but to be honest its the minority (used to be the majority) of police tosspots that ruin the name of the police. (Its the same for doormen, the few thugs give the rest a bad name). I know plenty of good police, but i have been on the receiving end of police overreacting and the resulting fallout(ie me losing my job) -

Idiot.
Hang on. The lad might be a tit (altho' he didnt strike me that way) but that doesn't alter the fact that these police workers impeded his right to take whatever photos he wanted and required that he left the area without reason or justification.
No matter how nice or nasty individual police workers are, the rights they have over members of the public are limited and defined. The officers in this case were wrong regardless of how much of a dick this lad is, was or might be.. -

Registered 16 years agoWell, the full details of what exactly he was trying to do isn't exactly clear from the audio recording. The police seemed to be asking him to not walk past a certain point, and there may have been not unreasonable reasons for that. The police didn't exactly do themselves any favours in the way they reacted, and the way they tried to justify their actions by veiled threats and referencing certain laws which they didn't seem to be able explain was lame. But come on, that bloke was a tit. The repeated way he kept yelping about the police taking his details and not having the right to do so. FFS, just don't give them then.
The recording demonstrates such an obvious attempt at provocation that it makes any account by the blogger a bit suspect to me, which undermines the whole "OMG! PIGS!" message that he's obviously trying to put across. It's propaganda. I think there *are* problems with how laws have been introduced over the last decade or so have eroded our rights and given the police and the state carte blanche to do too much with too little justification. But arguing that, and convincing people of that, is not helped by childish acts of deliberate provocation - it just alienates the very people you need to convince to achieve anything: the disinterested and undecided
I agree with the stance, I completely disagree with his actions as they appear to me. -

Registered 14 years agoLike others have pointed out; meh. There are far worse accounts of ineptitude/dickishness/unlawful behaviour by the police.
The context of the recording/photos is murky at best. That said, this incident does illustrate the seeming resurgence of (some) members of the police using moral panics/genuine security concerns (pedophilia & terrorism) to throw their weight around when it isn't supported by procedure or the law.
The blogger's histrionics ("and now my back hurts, owie") don't do much to highlight these issues though. -
