I've been thinking of getting the Samsung Monte, if you don't mind getting it on a contract you'll be able to get the handset free with a £15-a-month contract on most networks.

    Has anyone here got one?

Buy the way this is a great website to search for contract phones.

I read somewhere that T-Mobile were "practically giving the Desire away" after iPhone 4 launch.

May be worth looking into that...

The Desire looks like a superb phone but I'm looking for something abit more pocket friendly, the HTC Legend looks like the perfect phone for me but I don't like the deals I've seen for it.

I don't think £30 a month is "giving it away"

Beepy has two of the best HTC Desire offers on the market. There is a £20 per month contract which offers 100 minutes, 100 texts and 3GB internet. The user has to pay £35.99 for the phone; hence, the total cost of ownership over the 18-months duration is a mere £395.99. The user may want to add to add £85 for a 32GB microSD card in it.

Just looked into it, shit tarriff.

I've just found a decent Legend deal, 300 minutes isn't great but I don't make many phone calls myself so that wouldn't be a problem for me personally.

By the way, I'm kinda new to this phone contract business.. When they say for instance that it's a 24 month contract do they allow you to upgrade your phone during that period? And also what happens if you lose the phone? Will they replace it?

You take insurance out on the phones, which comes with a small excess payment if you lose or damage the phone.

Phone companies may let you upgrade a month early, so make sure you get a phone you actually like.

My problem is I don't really spend much money each month on pay and go so a contract is kind of a waste. If so, wouldn't be a dilema and would already have an iphone ^^

Which should I choose, HTC Legend or Samsung Wave? Both on a £25-a-month contract and both the devices are free.

I'm currently playing roughly £15-£20 a month for my shit PAYG smartphone I'd only be paying an extra £5-£10 a month and I'd be getting an awesome phone worth £300, 1GB wireless internet a month and unlimited texts. It sounds like a great deal for me.

I need a new under 100 quid pay as you go I can pop my sim in. Is the Samsung tocco lite bad then? I have an old school Nokia that has done the job for years and lasts more than a week with a charge. My ipod touch also fills my app needs. Just need a bit of an update with something that can connect to facebook ( don't ask!), and maybe an alright camera for spare of the moment stuff. Anything half decent out there just now?

(damn iPod touch on eurogamer app!)

This site may be useful to you, it's best for pay monthly phones really but it may help you narrow down the phones you're looking at.

Thanks again for the help, think I'm going to go for the cheap and cheerful LG GM360 Snap, thanks to it's half decent camera and video, and social networking crap my mates bullied me into joining! Yet I can't stop myself from checking the updates on facebook every now and then :(

    THREADJACK

Just going to steal Hardtech's thread rather than create yet another what mobile should I get thread.

Ok, which one of this lot should I get.

I need something that can use Googlemail easily and has a satnav or can access to Googlemaps.

Bonus: Can get on EG and can run some good games.

I'm clueless with mobile phones, so any help would be appreciated. :)

Any phone from the last five years can access gmail - it has a web interface and a POP3 (i.e. standard mail) interface. Ditto google maps, with the free Java google maps app, though the fact it downloads the maps can hurt so you might want to look for a phone that has Wifi or runs an alternate satnap app (I know of Ovi Maps but there must be more). You might also want a phone with built in GPS so the navigation features actually work.

The EG mobile interface is very good on any phone with a web browser (which is almost all of them).

As for games, I dunno. Most modern phones can run Angry Birds, which is all people seem to play these days.
