Yup, as long as the singer is the same it still sounds like the same band.

truth be told, the old GNR were one of my all time favourite bands, but i missed out on seeing them back in the day. thought Chinese Democracy was ok, nothing great, same as i thought Slash's band was also OK.

Still, as long as they play Sweet Child O Mine and Dont Cry and November Rain i'm happy...

But his voice is all weak and pathetic and destroyed by years or abuse. It's just depressing watching him squeaking out what he would have formerly wailed. You're going to have a miserable time.

I saw them in 2006. Pretty good, but quite forgettable. It's just a bit crap not having Slash there.

Imagine going to see the Rolling Stones, and it was just Mick Jagger and 5 random session musicians. It'd be pretty fucking pointless, no?

But what if one of them had, say for instance, a bucket on his head?

Having read Slash's autobiography I'm glad I saw then when I did as Axl seems to have got worse over the years.

In my experience after chatting with friends, the musicians among us think Axl was the creative force behind GNR and Slash just looked cool and pulled off some nice licks. Non-musicians tend to think GNR was all about Slash. Having said that, it's pretty clear that Chinese Democracy is not particularly brilliant. IMO though, better than Slash's efforts.

In terms of the rest of the new GNR. Most people don't know the work of Buckethead, Robin Finck or Bumblefoot, hence the scepticism. I don't rate Bumblefoot but I'd rather listen to Buckethead or Finck over Slash these days. Some of Finck's work for Nine Inch Nails is modern guitar playing at its best and Buckethead is just simply a musical genius almost entirely regardless of genre.

They could be the best in the universe but just call your new band a new name.

Slash came up with the riff to Sweet Child O' Mine. That makes him pretty importnant! And anyway, it's clear that all the guys collectively were worth more than the sum of their parts. Many/most of the songs from Appetite and Use Your Illusion were written by more than one member.

You're right about Finck, though. The solo(s) on There Was A Time from Chinese Democracy are better than any of Slash's work since GnR. I also liked his solo in Better.

Actually, There Was A Time easily rivals anything GnR have ever done. It's a great song.

Saw them a couple of years ago in Sheffield. Sounded pretty fucking good to me. The only downside was being pissed on by a skinhead.

Oh and Dizzy is still in the band, and Izzy made a surprise appearance for over an hour!

Still, Guns to me is Axl, Slash, izzy, Duff and Matt.

Not to say you won't have an awesome time!
