Have you all played Bioshock 2? It's really underrated and great if you fancy exploring Rapture a bit more.
Definitely underrated. I think people heard Levine wasn't writing it and automatically assumed it was bad when it really wasn't. The idea of big sisters did feel a bit tacked on, but everything was fine. The combat was improved too.

Bioshock 2 was excellent in terms of gameplay but it didn't have the same impact as the original for me

Completed Infinite and although the twist was superb I didn't enjoy the journey to get there very much at all. The combat was boring

Oh, I agree, Bioshock 2 doesn't have the same impact, but I don't think it was bad either.

Infinite was a weird one for me. I liked the idea, but I think the execution was the problem once you started jumping around timelines. I think sticking to the same gameplay didn't help mind. The plasmids felt very out of place and I think it would have benefited more with an adventure styled setting. You could have joined the rebels to hide from the authorities or go alone etc.

I think that the one problem with Infinite is that a lot of people don't play with the vigors enough, and realise how OP they are.

The last level on max difficulty gave me a lot of trouble originally, but once I had all of my vigors and gear sorted out, I was able to take down enemies with incredible speed and efficiency, which is what that level really requires.

In other words, vigors are great, but the game doesn't really do a great job of encouraging you to experiment with them...

I'd have to agree. I have a few combos I repeatedly used for the duration of the game, but apart from that I didn't really venture far out my comfort zone. It was only on googling stuff after finishing the game that I discovered just how much I'd missed out on by not using some of the other powers more.

I finished the first Burial at Sea DLC last night - it's great to be back in Rapture and (IIRC) it's great how the story sort-of links back to the first 2 Bioshock games, but the storyline itself is just as confusing as the ending of Infiinte was.

I was left feeling somewhat underwhelmed by the DLC, but am looking forward to playing part 2, which I understand is considered to be the better of the 2....

I played through both back to back a month or so ago. Enjoyed both. The second one was a bit too slow for me but did improve. :)

I'm actually itching to replay this but hanging on for the rumoured remaster on ps4 (aka the PC version, on console). 60fps (hopefully) will make a big improvement to the gunplay.

I'd be keen to play Bioshock 1 and 2 again. Infinite less so...

Burial At Sea part 2 finished this evening - I enjoyed it more than the first part, and I like how it linked the story for the 2 Bioshock games together (albeit is a fairly confusing way).

The use of stealth(ish) and the cross bow added a new dimension to BS and the new plasmid was great.

I'm playing through this again now for the first time in a while - on 1999 mode - and I am trying to get my OP build back together. I honestly can't remember what my final OP build was last time, but looking at the gear I have right now:

Hat: Burning Halo (70% chance to set on fire with melee)
Vest: Executioner (60% to crit. staggered enemies with melee, +25% dmg)
Pants: Brittle-Skinned (Do double damage to enemies after you melee them)
Boots: Vampire's Embrace (Melee kill gives health)

...and the fact that I have saved up almost enough cash to upgrade Charge and Return to Sender, when I get my hands on them, I do believe I will be hard as fuck. It's like I'm rebuilding my Diablo III monk in the world of Bioshock. :D

    Blog continues...

I have fully upgraded the Charge, Return to Sender, Bucking Bronco, Possession vigors and the Sniper Rifle, the Volley Gun, the Shotgun and the Rocket Launcher. I chewed through the siren in just 4 hits of Charge with that gear on 1999 Mode. And I was invincible the entire time thanks to Charge's upgrade perks.

I'm near the end now, but I can't see me having any trouble until the final battle, and even then, as long as I manage the airships properly, I should have 1999 whipped by Thursday. I have a feeling that this time I'm having even more success than the last time.

Quick tip for anyone doing that final battle on 1999 mode:

    1) Use an upgraded Return to Sender to put little bullet sponges around the generator;
    2) Use Songbird to take out the patriots as a higher priority than the later gunships, which you can take down yourself with an upgraded sniper rifle. They tend to do more damage to the generator, they take longer to mop up and they hurt you more. Also, songbirds cool-down is quicker too.
    3) Possession is a very handy and very quick way to deal with the rocket launcher dudes.

Now I'm on Easy Mode, breezing through all of the fights to see if I can upgrade everything and mop up a few remaining trophies. Love this game.

Is the DLC any good? Thinking about giving it a go...

God (only knows) I loved this game... seems a good time for another playthrough.

Might need to dig out that remaster, still my favourite gaming trilogy.

@GarlVinland Not sure if you already have it or are on PS4, but the whole trilogy is £11.99 on the PSN Easter Sale. Super value.

Played through the first two, need to do a new run on Infinite soon!

Started a run on Infinite last night. By gawd, it's beautiful. Probably the most aesthetically pleasing game I've ever played.

All the new games journalism moans about the gameplay/plot ring pretty hollow with me to be honest, it's a really fine fps with interesting and prescient things to say, imho. Most of all, it's actually affecting - something very few games pull off.

Yeah I got the remastered collection last year. Done Bioshock 1 and recently finished Infinite and it's 2 expansions. Utterly fantastic gaming (Burial at Sea 1&2 I had never played before and looked beautiful as well as mixing things up nicely). Going to leave it a few months and get stuck in to 2.

@Humperfunk cheers, have it already. Bought on day one, never played it, overdue to post in the 'buying things we don't need' thread. :)

At some point it became trendy to bash the series, same with things like Rick and Morty. Ludicrous if you ask me. Obviously what we need more of are identikit FPS rather than insanely ambitious AAA games.

The last few hours of Infinite gave me goosebumps like no other game ever made.

The ending of Infinite was indeed fantastic but I can't say the same for everything leading up to that point - very hit and miss imo (whereas the original is a masterpiece).

    Never played 2 either.

2 is very much worth a playthrough. Yes, at times it feels like a retread of 1, but the combat and ability to dual wield is fantastic and the plot imo is just as good. Love the Big Sister fights as well.
