I've just spied that switching off data roaming on O2 iPhones, doesn't actually seem to work, according to the BBC. Which is unfortunate since I am going to be travelling to Germany and don't want to be stung, but the crook in me spies an opportunity. Can I just use the internet whilst I'm there anyways, come back and just say that I switched off the roaming, thought I was using WIFI hotspots and now have a huge bill that I wasn't expecting. Give me back my dosh?

That's a pretty big risk, isn't it? Can you not call them up and get them to sort something out?

I saw that on the news last night Vice. My mum has an iPhone (she got my cast off the lucky lady!) too and when we were on holiday in July in Italy, both phones were set to data roaming off (as default) and we experienced no problems.

Obviously lots of others are, but we were fine.

That's odd. Turning roaming off worked for me in Bulgaria last year. Is it newly borked with the new OS or something?

I went too Berlin the other week and was amazed at the charges for data roaming - £3 per megabyte no less !

Considering it has become a basic function of smart phones and I was connected to O2 de and am on O2 in the UK this has got be be changed somehow.
