sounds sinister when you put it lie that but the article seems to be saying that this brandon guy from the phone dev team said, stop breaking into the system by force and we'll help you do something more substantial for the homebrew community. which is nice!

wat does it mean to have to 'root' something? i read a review of android that said to take a screenshot you need root access and i'm not sure what that means
Same as jailbreaking an iPhone, gives you more access to the system so you can do funky shit like installing new ROMs.
The screenshot thing is a bit silly, screenshot apps need root access to work. Hope Google sort that in an update. -

Could be interesting, don't know how they go about supporting homebrew especially the stuff people actually want. Someone else will mess about with it but nice to see MS maybe offering some official support. -
Still waiting for my shitty Mozart to turn up.

/back to android -
Elaborate please. -
Same problems it's always had, the utterly horrible interface, it's awful. -
Errm right. -
Looks pretty good, I'll give it that, but it seems to go a million levels deep and can be very confusing at times. Fucking hard to describe. -

Yeah, I'd go with that. Had a mess around with one in the Orange store the other day. I won't be ditching the iPhone anytime soon. -
Oh, I've had this for 2 days, it's a massive pain to navigate around and I'm not getting any better at it. -

Registered 15 years agoI've had mine for 2 months now and love it. Had an Android phone previously, but never and iPhone so comparisons with that are difficult.
The interface is superior to Android - just the right blend of structure and customisation. Nice big icons that are easy to move around/change.
The messaging/email is handled better/quicker IMO
App choice is ok, but not proper massive. Games are generally overpriced. Getting achievements on the train/in the loo is ace, however.
Overall I'm a fan -
It's better than my Blackberry

Can someone answer this? It's a pretty big deal breaker for me. -

Registered 17 years agoJust picked up an LG Optimus 7 (E900.) It seems to be the only one available with 16gb memory, and I cant be arsed to wait for a Dell Venue Pro any longer.
Very impressed with it so far. Lovely screen on it, seems really intuitive, Xbox Live integration is superb and better than I expected.
As for Wi-Fi, it will only connect to an SSID that is being broadcast.
As for the "millions of levels deep" -???????
There are 2 screens. The Start screen where all your preferred apps sit on tiles, and the second screen accessible with a swipe to the left, where everything is listed in alphabetical order. Within apps or games, nothing is more than a press of the Windows key to take you back to the start page. Couldnt be easier to navigate in my opinion.
Pros:
Lovely bright clear screen.
Xbox Live is great, and love that my Avatar keeps appearing randomly on the XBL tile.
The tabbed browser is fantastic.
Much better than my shitty BlackBerry 9700
Awesome touchy on screen keyboard.
Cons:
Not enough ring tones or message alerts
Not enough options to customise the device, such as changing the font size in the email app to show more than 5 email headers.
Gets a bit warm in my hands if playing around with it for a couple of hours. Having recently moved to the sub zero temperatures of Switzerland, I think this is a bonus feature.

Registered 15 years agoMy iPhone contract expires in dec 2011. If by that time my most used apps are available on the Windows marketplace, I'll make the jump. I might just make the jump anyways, if the iPhone 5 isn't as flashy as the W7 UI. -
Lol, a giant jump backwards. -

Registered 15 years agoYou reckon? What does the iPhone do miles better than W7? Other than the app store? -
Everything. Seriously, the W7 is awful. If you really want to change get an Android. -

Registered 15 years agoI have a major problem with Android. Took the HTC Desire with me to Germany for a week and that was quite possibly the worst experience using a smart phone that I have ever had. Will NEVER go Android, unless the things improve by a boat load. -

Registered 13 years agoWhat problems did you have with the HTC vice? -
Vice, don't pay any attention to Crispy, talk about exaggeration...
For a less than 3 month old OS, WP7 is pretty solid out the gate. And rumour has it there are two updates due in the next couple of months that will add functionality, such as copy and paste and multi-tasking.
I've used one, and thought the UI was pretty slick myself. I'll also be making the jump when my contract runs out.
