The main update is still expected on March 8th. This first update for Windows Phone is designed to improve the software update process itself. So while it might not sound exciting, it’s still important because it’s paving the way for all future goodie-filled updates to your phone, such as copy and paste or improved Marketplace search. Multitasking isn't due until the second major update anyway, isn't it? |

Also, I only had my HD7 for a week. Started having screen tearing so I sent it back (he couldn't give me a replacement) and decided to wait for CES to see if anything caught my eye. Which means I've been back to using my blackberry for the last few weeks.
Not sure what I'm going to do now, to be honest. I think I may just buy an Orange San Francisco and see how that goes. I'll be keeping an eye on WP7 though, whatever I decide to do. How are you guys getting on with it? -
Is there a 32gb option yet? -

Registered 17 years agoCheers Kev, I hadnt actually been keeping that up to date with the release dates and features.
I did read last night that Angry Birds is being released early April, which is good, but also bad as its still 6 weeks away.
mcm - i've got a 32gb SD in my HD7, but to install it does involve a T6 torx driver and some patience. And of course a warranty invalidation. -

Registered 12 years agoMy work colleague showed me his new Windows phone yesterday.
It felt a lot like using the 360 dashboard. Clean design, smooth and quick, but quite bloated. It didn't seem possible to have everything you deem useful on your homescreen at once, for example.
However, clicked on Xbox Live, saw my mate's friends list, clicked on my gamertag and within seconds a full version of my avatar lept onto the screen. Impressive! -

Registered 13 years agoI've currently got an iPhone 3GS and have an upgrade due. I don't fancy the iPhone 4 so would like to go for something different.
My main priority on a handset is a decent phone but it's mainly a lot of web browsing that I do.
I'm thinking maybe a HTC Trophy 7? Anyone out there got one? I'm a 360 gamer mainly (a little bit of PC too but less and less these days) so the Live integration sounds ok but can you get apps that do similar things elsewhere?
The other option that I'm tempted with is to go for a Samsung Nexus S for a bit of pure Android. I like the look of the handset and it will get all the Google updates quickly when compared to the HTCs etc.
Anyone got any thoughts to offer? -

Registered 14 years agoI'd take a HTC with older software over a Samsung with newer software, however I'm sure you will find someone who would argue the opposite to this. Choose a phone that you like the look of, that's probably the best solution. -

Registered 20 years agoI have the Trophy. I really wanted an iPhone but couldn't justify the cost and the Trophy was a free upgrade. Didn't go Android because I'd previously had a Vodafone Magic which they refused to update from Android 1.6 until after I'd upgraded.
All of which doesn't help you . . . :/
Anyway, putting my pangs for an iPhone aside, it's a nice phone. WP7 is buggy but then it's still version 1. It's crashed back to the home screen a few times when in the Marketplace and then it refuses to load the Marketplace again until the phone is powered off and on.
It doesn't remember the camera settings, So if you turn the flash off and then stop the camera app and then go back in, the flash will be on. Same with video, I like to record all my video in HD but it defaults to VGA every time.
It will sync photos and videos to my iMac but only to iPhoto which is a pain.
But despite all these, I still like it and I find new apps all the time. Zune player is nice and very different to iTunes/iPhone. Just started using Bubblegum which is similar to Instaphoto, the Xbox Live features are nice and the games are as good as those on the iPhone.
I did some blog posts about it but, as I said before, you'll have to factor in that I wanted an iPhone.

Registered 13 years agoIt is a really tough choice - if I knew which one I liked best I would be sorted! I'm leaning towards the Nexus S though simply for the more mature OS. I will miss those XBL features though! -

Massive price drops on WP7 devices. -
I hate long contracts on phones, I am just coming to the end of a 2 year contract, and of course tech moves on, but I am lost as to what is good and what is not.
Have looked at the Desire S which due to release in the next few weeks, HD7???? Windows phone and the iphone 4. Coming from an iphone 3g, all would be good upgrades I'm sure, but with the iphone 4 I am reluctant because there will be a new one in a couple of months, and also I know how it will work. Getting something new is all about learning how it works, no fun if you already know. -

I can guess why.
The second generation is on it's way. -

Wouldn't bet on this until October-November when they release their big update.

Registered 11 years agoI am in the upgrade camp, too. My contract runs out real soon.
Think I want the 3 one plan. Looks like some good minutes. Really can't decide on the phone.
I'm leaning towards W7 phone or a HP Veer at the mo (I can't stand how buggy and horrible and ugly android is). Is the app selection any good? What is the best handset? Any coming out around may ish? -

Registered 17 years agoI've realised one thing; the Americans have so much more and better apps. If you get "Marketplace App" (a better app search, with a live tile) you find so much more stuff. The Americans also have MSN Video, which basically has access to a bunch of on-demand tv shows and movies (even 4od is on MSN video). But it's not available for the UK.
Also, it's better to search for apps via zune rather than the phone.
My phone now says I have an update ready, but I think there's something wrong with my phone. I connect it to my laptop, but it doesn't recognize the connected device now. -

Registered 17 years agoWe got PES 2011 on the markeplace today. Its not bad. The on screen joystick nub and buttons work quite well on the HD7.
Still no bloody phone update though. -

Registered 17 years agoI'm having serious thoughts to abandoning my WP7.
For months now, I haven't been able to connect my phone to my lappy unless via wifi, which was fine at the time. It says something about usb not configured properly and now just sees it as an "unknown device".
Now I've just got the message for the update, which requires a wired connection. Been searching high and low for a fix, and I'm so close, yet still nothing (my laptop is XP).
To add salt to wounds, I've just uninstalled and tried re-installing zune, and now it's saying this program isn't compatible with 32-bit XP, WHICH IT IS. And it's getting al so very frustrating and has "Microsoft" written all over it.
Worst situation is; this is quite common with Windows phone 7 HTC handsets ONLY (so if you've got one, look out!) yet there has been nothing from either microsoft or htc to fix this. -

Registered 17 years agoSounds like more of a motherboard chipset driver problem to me. Try updating them, or uninstalling/reinstalling them. Try re-applying the XP SP3 install as well.
Tried a different USB port or cable? Other USB things working?
My HD7 and Win7 is fine, although that doesnt help you. -

HTC Arrive A very nice looking phone. Which is rare for HTC. Still hoping Windows 7 becomes something, I think it does have potential to be a genuine competitor to iOS the way Android isn't. (Not talking about sales here). -

You might as well, the update brings support for Gyroscope and Compass which are not on the existing phones. Also there was no indication of an update before Fall to fix existing issues. All in all, no need to buy now.

Registered 11 years agoI'd quite like a Windows 7 phone, but my upgrade is due in may, and it doesn't look like there's any new/decent wp7 devices coming out that soon, and all the old ones are still incredibly expensive.
Does anyone know if all wp7 devices will get this upgrade? -
They will all get the update but like with the iPhone you would miss out on some features not supported by the existing hardware (e.g: gyroscope, compass).
