I really enjoyed Talos Principle but I think this might be a bit... crap? Is any narrative or other reason to solve the puzzles beyond the satisfaction of getting it right? I get that you're meant to suss out the trick required to solve each set of puzzles, and you're supposed to wander off elsewhere when you get stuck, but that becomes quite frustrating when your character moves so slowly even with shift held down. It seems quite difficult to work out where different areas 'start' as well - I want to be able to move on to another area quickly if I'm stuck but I end up getting lost. This is even worse because the whole thing is very empty. Pretty, but empty. I feel a bit like I've just spent £30 on one of these. :-/ |

Registered 18 years agoI don't believe there to be an overt narrative, no. It seems more thematic. Broad brushstrokes. There's no evil genius in a lab in the center of the island or anything. Well, I presume there isn't.
The exploring is half the fun at the start, or at least I've found it so. Those moments of epiphany, and especially when you start getting the LAZORS and the +other stuff, are a lot more rewarding than the straight-up panel solutions.
But if it's not clicking for you, it's not clicking. And yes, you have therefore wasted £30. Just not on what you think.

Registered 15 years agoThis game is legend. The best part is that the GF can play it with me, and in fact she solved two puzzles that had me completely stumped. Better fess up in the platinum thread when I get there... -

Registered 16 years agoSo far I'm not the biggest fan, I'm enjoying it enough but I'm not a massive lover of puzzle games - I know i'm never going to complete this. I find the lack of music perfectly fine, as I can just through on my own soundtrack in the background.
I absolutely adore the art style and graphics though. I had to tweak some graphics in text files though, FOV etc. In fact it only runs in 1080p by default so I had to manually tamper with the text file to run it in 2k. These days I don't expect to have deal with this manual wrangling. -

I can't really help with the getting lost. I figured out my way around pretty quickly on foot because every area is so distinct. There are also shortcuts to open everywhere, and the boat will take you from any area to any other very easily. They also display a map with symbols that relate to the "trick" for each area, as you put it, so navigation shouldn't be an issue.

The world is anything but empty. It's absolutely full or puzzles and detail but, again, if you can't see it then it's not going to help.

There is a very intentional reason there is no musical soundtrack and it's not because it would get repetitive, as was suggested a few pages back.

I enjoyed TTP, but oddly, I thought TTP got a bit repetitive after a while, despite its electric floating balls, lasers, and whatnot, while The Witness, with its simple line puzzle mechanics, is a lot more varied, and just keeps surprising me.

Already been noted by the committee on the platinum thread, you should know better. Your platinum will be null and void.

Registered 16 years agoWas really enjoying this up to the quarry. The desert, keep and monastery were really good and enjoyed figuring them out.
Not sure if I should have gone somewhere else first, did the first row with a vague understanding of how to get through but the second row just seemed to through more and more new rules at you and left me a bit cold. Will have a look elsewhere and will hopefully find some panels that help.
Not sure what it is about the area but to really left me cold -
@Kangoo try other areas. the quarry area relies on you knowing a few other bits also. the only bit it teaches you is the radiation symbol.
good tip for the whole game, really. move on to other areas if you get stuck! -

Think I might continue my descent in to the mountain if it keeps a few saves for you so you don't have to restart. First impressions of said area are 'you bastards'

Registered 15 years agoProbably a stupid question, but how do you all know how many puzzles ye have solved? And how many are there altogether? -
Dunno about altogether, but it you go to "Load a Game" in the Options menu you can tell from the filename.
