I know we're in the UK so the sport doesn't interest many people (I still don't get that) but I just want to point out the demo is out on XBL.

Cheers, 2k10 was a great game - shame I was shit at it :(

I only played the 'My Player' mode in 2K10. As long as they build on that I'm sold :)

I like American football and ice hockey, but basketball and baseball just seem quite boring to me. I'd like to get into them but just don't find them that entertaining.

It's weird, this game should be out in a couple of days, but there still aren't any reviews online, according to Metacritic.

The idea that you can play with vintage Michael Jordan in classic gameplay situations sounds and looks pretty good.

Hopefully they've fixed that whole 'I'm going to dribble to the basket, no wait I'm going to fake into a shot but oh my character is still in his animation so the chance to surprise my defender has fleeted and now I have to wait until I can move again'-situation...

Got my copy from Shopto today, might be the only person on EG buying this over PES 2011, Enslaved and Castlevania :p

There are two of us! :)..... although I wasn't planning on getting any of those other games.

Only played a couple of games so far but I'm very impressed. Enjoyed 2K10 but this seems like it's on a different level! The controls are super smooth and the AI is far more realistic.
Gonna hold back from getting too excited until I've played it a little more because previous NBA games always seem great when you first start playing them.

    Make that three!

Love it. Just feels so smooth. The level of detail that has gone into the Jordan modes is incredible

Me too! (apart from the FIFA bit. Never been a fan of football).

Just ordered from Gameplay and really looking forward to it. Especially looking forward to the Jordan challenges. :)

I'm in like Flint. I'm loving this years edition, feels like a great advancement from 2K10... Not that happy about the passing lane steals, really struggling with turnovers and gets frustrating at times. Sure it's down to me and getting lazy with passes, but the CPU AI does seem to have eyes in the back of its head. I've tweaked sliders but hasn't made a huge difference.

Jordan challenges are rock hard at times and there are few gaming moments quite as soul destroying as when you in the 4th quarter with everything going well, that you balls it up and loose the challenge (Damn you Dominique Wilkins and your 25+ points!!).

All in all this is an immense game. Wish people outside of NBA fans got a chance to play a game (non demo version with all the commentating - which is surely the best commentary in the sports gaming market today?). Sets the bar high!

Got this for the PC last week; at just £12.99 it was a (excuse the pun) steal. Apart from the ramped up difficulty though and improved presentation, it doesn't seem a whole lot different from NBA 2K10 IMO. There are also some silly bugs such as disappearing player heads in the replays and at one point I had six players on the court!

Plays well though and the atmosphere is terrific. Shame the PC version doesn't have the improved menus from the console versions though as 2K Sports games, for as long as I can remember, have always had dreadfully unintuitive and ugly looking menus that are an absolute chore to navigate.

Anyone have any idea on how this plays with Move on the PS3, totally forgot about this until I had a look at the box in store

I'm guessing it'll probably be better with normal controls but since I got it with not much else to play it with...

I don't think it's that at all. That's just something all the leet Yanks yell whenever anyone complains about it.

They've pretty much ruined the fast break aspect of the game. Playing as the Grizzlies myself, and I'll have Rudy Gay wide open and charging down the wing, with NO ONE any where near him nor in the passing lane, only for a opposing player to appear from nowhere and make an impossible steal. It happens way too often to the point where it just makes it unrealistic in it's difficulty.

I've also tried adjusting the sliders to compensate, but the 'Passing Lanes' and all the 'Steals' sliders seem to do naff all. The only thing that seems to work is lowering the AI's 'Defensive Awareness' slider. The problem with that though, is that is lessens the AI's overall defensive awareness as well, making it too easy to score in other ways, so I'm not too keen in doing that.

The rest of the game is immense though. Makes me sad that the sport isn't bigger in this country as; a) it's by far the most entertaining team sport to watch in the world; and b) this is the best and most realistic depiction of a real-world sport ever made. Seriously, play this for a length of time, and you'll see just how FIFA fans shouldn't really be too happy with what they are getting, as they could (and probably should) be SO much better.

very true - i love the way each team plays differently and relates to how they play in real life - would be nice if fifa could build this into the game.

I agree about the fast breaks. Hopefully it's something that can be adjusted in a patch. I do however like that the AI picks off lazy passes. Gotta use that icon passing!

Finding a few more holes now:

1 - The AI seems to grab a lot of offensive rebounds with players who normally wouldn't
2 - I seem to miss quite a few open shots (using Players real FG%) with players who should be hitting them
3 - Your AI team mates do a crap just helping on ISO plays - anybody tried the double team button?
4 - Using the 'quick post up' play seems to send your best post up player into a game of it. Running round and round eating up the shot clock before finally deciding to post.

Still finding my way round the game though, playing with the sliders and difficult etc. Still much better than last year imo.

    Ah the Real FG%.

I love the whole idea of that, as it helps prevent some of the stupid scores you get when playing full 12 min quarters (i'm a stat obsessive, if you can't already tell...), but it doesn't seem to take into account whether the player is open or not. For example, a quality shooter like O.J Mayo (another quality name, along with Rudy Gay) seems to miss open shots just as much as really tight contested shots.

Go into freestyle practice mode with Real FG% on and with jumpshot feedback off, and your player will miss more shots than he hits. Which would be fine in a game situation where your opposing man is in your face and when 40% of successful shot attempts would be fine, but for a professional basketball player on the court on his own and with no pressure?

The older isomotion is back this time (with some slight changes). Besides, there's nothing that a bit of practice wouldn't sort out.

For example, I really struggled going back to an Isomotion system which is solely on the left stick in this game, but a few days of play later I'm having a lot more success when driving to the basket. There's a really handy video up on the XBL Marketplace on the 360 which helped me a lot.

Also, there is now a Real Shooting % option, which favours player's using players actual shooting ability over shot stick (or button) timing, which should make things a lot easier if you were having any trouble with the shooting mechanics. Also, the layup system has been much improved as well and is much easier than before, with the right stick being used to determine which direction you want to go in (move the stick away from the defending player, and your player should try to shoot away from him, or move the stick towards him to try to draw the foul).

I'd say give the demo a go at least, as there has probably never been such a drastic improvement from a sports game's sequel over it's predecessor. It's easily by far the greatest sports game ever, and has set a benchmark that is going to take some real effort to top. EA felt the need to cancel the appalling NBA Elite a week before release, which pretty much says it all...

Gotta be Real FG% for me, especially because without it you have to learn each player's jumpshot technique. If I'm Ray Allen, I want to be able to hit 3's because he can. I don't want to miss a bucketload just because I can't get the timing right on his jump shot. The same (maybe more so) for FT.

Missing wide out shots is the biggest problem I have at the moment. As you implied, most NBA players in practice will hit well over 60%, but in games, with pressure, it's more like 40%. So since contested shots seem to have the same chance of going in as open looks, is there any point in trying to get quality shots? Isn't that the whole point of a running a decent offense?

Anyway, not much I can do about it other than tweak the sliders.

Got back into playing 2K9 the past couple of days so thought I should upgrade to this after reading glowing reviews. I had a 10% off Zavvi voucher in my e mail today as well so that was handy.

Can't wait to give it a go.

    Anyone picked up 2k12?

After NBA Jam has got me in the mood, I'm in the market for a new proper B-Ball game and was just wondering if it was much of an advance gameplay or feature-wise on 2k11, or if I was just better off going or the older version on the cheap?
