@BTBAM And say goodbye to hours and hours of your life. Dark Souls will devour them. You will age.|
I used to be a casual gamer

I really hope so! I've been thinking about it for months. Got Amalur (boring) and dragons dogma (too long winded walking) and finally went for this. Wanted it for my 6 week holiday (I'm a teacher) and I am so excited! Installing to hard drive now! And thanks for tips, will do just that!
If I were you, don't be afraid to "cheat", as in ask for help at every possible opportunity!
As you can probably tell from the 833 pages of this thread, the thing that makes this game is the community, this thread is basically an extension of the vague notes that you'll find on the floor in the game.
I wouldn't play solely this game though, or else you will quickly get frustrated. It's one of those games where you try and try and get nowhere, yet you play something else for a few hours, come back to it and you get oh so slightly closer than you did before.
@BTBAM I've done 105 hours in 6 weeks. It's completely mental. I've never played anything like this in my life. Even my wife knows about this game now, although she just nods and smiles with a kind of pitying look on her face when I speak about it.
And it's all I speak about now
And yeah. Use this thread.
I would have gone completely mad and eaten my own face if It wasn't for this place.

Fancied a challenge.
At the core, it's about you getting better at the melee combat, with learning how enemies behave to anticipate their actions.
It's about self-improvement. More rewarding than seeing flashy stuff or rising numbers on a stats screen - but it can also be a tough nut to crack at the beginning.

I can't get out of the create character screen. I might go back to fable haha!
Okay it had glitched, never mind. Not the best start...
Yeah this thread seems daunting to say the least but I will google lots!
@BTBAM Oh, goes without saying also. Make sure you play online, the orange soapstone hints left by others can really save your bacon.
Holy shit, turns out I hadn't entered the name. Is this what the next 150 hours of my life will be like?!
I wish I could wipe my memory clean and replay DS anew

@BTBAM - and don't be put off when you inevitably die. And keep your shield up!
@everyone - whats the chances he gets a bss straight away?
Probably. I got one second knight I killed
I don't know how it happened but I have three in my inventory - wasn't even farming...
Is it worth trying to master parrying? Keep dying on the sixth skeleton I've found because I'm trying to perfect it. I imagine it's useful?
I'm a pyromancer btw.
I love how much you guys love this game. Makes me feel positive that I will enjoy seeing 'you die' and going back to my last bonfire
I don't even want to know what a bss is...
Is it worth trying to master parrying? Keep dying on the sixth skeleton I've found because I'm trying to perfect it. I imagine it's useful?I'd focus on the backstab first. To parry is best trained on low level mobs after you have become stronger - so you don't die as easily.
Nooooo, get away from the bones - have a look around and explore some paths.
The skeletons will kill you, no doubt. Even trying to run around and pick up items is futile when you look behind you and a crowd of imminent death is chasing you.
It's weird because, skeletons in games are normally the easiest enemy to kill.

I can't parry. Never have.
I now shoot the shit out of things with crystal death.
Yeah this is unusual. Just got to lodran, not sure what is best to upgrade now I've levelled up but will google everything. It's really good but a bit frustrating. A skeleton jumped down in front of a door out of nowhere and if I had little health and died I'd have been back to before the demon!! I will persevere!
Something tells me you don't mean skeletons... Are you referring to the standard undead perhaps? The boney bastards that are actual skeletons you'll find in the graveyard
Early doors make sure you put some points into Endurance, it's by far the best stat for newbies - more blocking potential, better attack potential, higher item limit etc etc.
Yep, if you want to make your life easy (cough...puss...cough) then you should invest in health and endurance.
And upgrade your armour and weapons when you get around that point in the game.
Gear Upgrade > Soul Level.
Dark Souls is now a fiver on the Steam Sale. Bloomin Ek. That has to go down as the best fiver ever spent, yes even better than 3 Bottles of Landlord.
Wow, I get this game.
You have 3000 souls, you die. You go from bonfire and collect souls you lost, run back to bonfire and level up. Enemies return. You kill them, then quickly level up again. Cycle repeats until you take a deep breath and push on to the point of no return.
That is one of the main draws, right? Never played anything like this before. It's magnificent.

I'm still only at the undead burg!!Most people will spend up to 5 hours there.
Which class did you select? The Knight?
@BTBAM Wait until the Pain and Anguish of loosing 500,000 souls.
(joke, ......it was the puppy)
ahh I joke again!!
