Registered 15 years agoI'd imagine so. I vaguely remember there was a price announcement a while back. -
oh well. i tend to shy away from extra charges for games on consoles tbh. it would only encourage other publishers to follow suit if too successful. not that EA or activision would need that much encouragement. ^_^ -

Registered 17 years agoFucking hell, I just realised. DL'ing MMO patches on PS3 is gonna take some people all fucking night. -
The charges aren't cheap if i remember correctly , and you buy the disc game. I was slightly interested before that. It looks a bit meh too. I can't see how this is going to take off to be honest but i've been wrong about things before.
It's a big deal to Sony and i think the subscription part should come as inclusive to PS+ , with all future console MMO's. Then i would subscribe, and play it. Simple. -

Registered 12 years agoIt'll need to be very good and hook people in the free month. If it does that, then it wins. -
Well, that relies on enough people being willing to buy the disc in the first place knowing about the extra monthly charges. Its a hard sell. Yet if all SOE MMO's were to come under PS+, they get subscribers, people buying their games, and beat CoD to people paying a sub to play their popular game. I think this will flop more than the next Tony Hawk game. -

Registered 12 years agoI think it will as well (see my prediction in the other thread). Mainly because I'm not sold on the game in the first place. There seems to be some fundamental flaws in the logic of the game which I can't quite articulate. -

Well it suffers the problem of being niche market. All DC comic fans don't play on or own a PS3, all PS3 owners aren't comic fans. Also, this is my own theory but MMO's are hugely successful when they are engaging to the female market. Not so here, and the price of entry is a commitment. Console owners are also unfamiliar with the concept, and already own multiplayer games that they already play with friends. I don't see any appeal this has personally. It also looks like shit. -

True, but it seems like the perfect MMO for consoles. It stands a good chance of converting some users; providing its a friendly experience. -

Registered 15 years agoI don't see the appeal therefore it's probably going to flop.
That reminds me of several EG predictions of late. -

That's a novel attitude!
I think if everyone adopted the same principals, we just may as a forum, avoid a whole torrent of shit. -
I see it as this (after half a bottle of Baileys).
a; Give the whole game + subscription to all PS+ users, thus creating a reason to subscribe and a vocal enthusiastic user base resulting in increased console sales and PS+ being easily accepted.
b; Charge for the disc but give free access to all future SOE MMO's with PS+, thus providing a quality service that is economically appealing , with steady hardware sales increases.
c; Charge £30 for a disc based game people are wary of whilst having a pricey and restrictive subscription model that most won't understand why they have to pay, stop paying, and servers are empty.
Then go free to play for PS+ members , looking like you dropped a bollock and nobody being too interested. Whereas they would have been if that was the plan from the get go.
Sony have chosen c, so we can expect lots of statements along the line of "MMO's just don't seem to fit on consoles" by people wanting to keep their jobs. -

Registered 13 years agoPSPlus is £3 a month. For that you already get 4 games minimum a month, plus all the extras. I personally think it's already great value, but even if you don't I think you must be a bit mad if you think they will include a £10 a month subscription as a freebie. -

I don't think they will for a second. But £10 a month would be as mad as a hatter in a hat made of madness. -

Registered 12 years agocharge £30 for three months play plus the game.
that's enough so people can feel like they can have fun with it and extract value even if they don't want to sign up for a sub.
If they're not hooked at three months then the game isn't good enough and will fail whatever you do. -

Registered 11 years agoThey could charge £10 as planned, if it fails then go Free-to-play and make cash off microtransactions. -

Yeh but going free to play isn't a business plan as it looks bad all round and is similar to telling friends you're opting for bankruptcy. It makes sense when you aren't making money but not a great mission statement.
