Homer: See, I got this friend, Joey Jo-Jo Junior... Shabadoo? Moe Szyslak: That's the worst name I ever heard. [a man runs out of Moe's crying] Barney Gumble: Hey, Joey Jo-Jo! |

Eddie: Well well, Steve Sax, from New York City.
Lou: I heard some guy got killed in New York City and they never solved the case. But you wouldn't know anything about that now, would you, Steve? (Lou and Eddie laugh)
Sax: But there are hundreds of unsolved murders in New York City!
Lou: You don't know when to keep your mouth shut, do you, Saxxy Boy?

Heh, to be fair the title of the thread starts of with "the moment when you realise..."

This has to be the worst opening post on any forum ever. The emoji, the use of the phrase "that moment" and the fact that you still like new Simpsons.
that moment you realise you're the only person who still likes it
Edit: although liking the new series is indefensible, it's not even funny, let alone keeping in spirit with the old episodes.

Registered 13 years ago@D_Mantis It's definitely very turbulent but I think there's still some great episodes like The Wizard of Evergreen Terrace, Homer Simpson in: "Kidney Trouble", Wild Barts Can't Be Broken, and Make Room for Lisa that have lines I still quote with friends.
There's a few duff episodes in season 10 like the Superbowl and Bible Stories ones, but 11 was the start of the real nose dive in quality where barely any of the episodes are any good. -

Tour Guide: Founded by prostitutes in 1849, and serviced by prostitute express riders who could bring in a fresh prostitute from Saint Joe in three days; Bloodbath Gulch quickly became known as a place where a trail hand could spend a month's pay in three minutes.
Homer Simpson: Three minutes.
[whistles]
Marge Simpson: I never realized history was so filthy!
Tour Guide: First on our tour is the whore house. Then we'll visit the cathouse, the brothel, the bordello, and finally the old mission.
Marge Simpson: Oh, thank heaven.
Tour Guide: Lots of prostitutes in there! -

Registered 7 years agoI watched a new one recently where Homer and Marge break up, lots of things that aren't remotely funny happen, and it's revealed it was all a dream. Compared to the old episodes, it was fucking awful. Nothing raised a smile, let alone a glol. -

Registered 7 years agoI would never expect the style to stay the same for such a long run but the descent into wacky and base humour is what made me give up on it. People liked Homer being stupid too much and the writers just went where that took them.
I'm sure the teens love it, not sure 30+ year olds that used to love it are the target audience.

C4 are playing episodes quite randomly, so from day to day you can see the massive cliff it dropped off.
I saw the one where Homer is obsessed with Edison ("Homer! You've got it stuck on whore!"), which I thought was great, but towards the end of it's funny run, and then the following night saw the one where Bart wins a cruise :/ -

Registered 8 years agoSomething I noticed recently was that the early episodes were enjoyable for everyone. My mum doesn't usually like the simpsons but when we watched some of the season 3 episodes she genuinely liked it and asked why the later seasons weren't as good.
Kind of ironically, channel 4 is pretty much the only place I'll watch the simpsons now because sky only show the recent series. Only problem is the "won't somebody please think of the children editing" which ruins a lot of great Halloween episodes (doesn't show Willie getting an axe to the back), and even some of the normal episodes when there's a vague reference to sex or drugs. -
This is me watching new Simpsons:

Registered 6 years agoWatching Conan O'Briens chat show I thought he was an unfunny dick; only recently found out he used to write for the Simpsons; not just that, GOOD simpsons.
He wrote the Monorail episode. -
I like Conan. He also wrote the Homer goes to college episode which is probably my favourite ever episode. -

Registered 8 years agoAbout the time it occurred to me that The Simpsons is the only television show i've ever watched where i've felt disappointed when i realised this episode isn't a repeat.
I watched it religiously up until the 300th episode. I don't think that was the moment it went downhill, i just started to lose interest. The more recent episodes aren't as good, but they still have their moments.
The one where Grandpa and Bart form a wrestling tag-team had a really funny moment. When they explain to Mr Burns that it's fake, and he turns to the camera and says 'that would mean everyone who watches it is an absolute moron'.
Bart's home run was really funny as well. -

Registered 9 years agoIn fairness the Simpson's ain't terrible, it is just in a lull. In the same way that there hasn't been a theatre production of note, the best book is a fan fic of Buffy, as is the film, and modern music is purely shite and insipid, and adverts are boring and beards are getting more Gnome like. -

Registered 13 years agoI think it should end but it's more to do with my love of the show for my reasons. It has been declining now for years. I'd be a bit gutted if they just kept dragging it along for another 5 or whatever years, progressively getting worse until people just stop watching and it goes off the air with little fanfare. It deserves better. At least if they finished awhile back they could of left on a high. -

Not one episode from season 11-15 would I consider to be classic Simpsons.
