The Monkey Suit (S17E21) is a great episode, and that was fairly recent.

South Park tried doing a season arc with season 6. I think thats my favourite season too.

The show couldn't work if it had a realistic timeline. There have been over 400 episodes after all. But some events do stay permanent, like Apu's octuplets, Maude Flanders' death, Sideshow Bob being in jail etc.

You know what I hate about series like this in general? Nothing ever really changes. By the end of each episode, it's always back to square one. Especially after all those years, you'd expect some kind of progression between the episodes. This doesn't just apply to The Simpsons. I would love to see a Homer win the lottery, and actually not lose everything by the end of the episode. Maybe let him stay rich for at least a few episodes, if not for the rest of the season. That said, for this to work, Homer and his family being filthy rich should really just be a new background for them, meaning the jokes must become more than "Homer's a poor stupid guy with a loving family". Hell, even Maggie growing up could be interesting.

Hell, even Friends evolved, with lots of changes as the seasons progressed. I'd like to see The Simpsons at least try not to go back to square one every damn episode.

    Didn't Ned Flanders' wife die?

Even I know that, and I don't watch it.
And Apu getting married, Skinner and Krabappel, Lisa becoming a vegetarian.

Granted it's hardly The Wire, but would you want The Simpsons to be constantly evolving when?

How come news story comments have + and - buttons, but the main EG forum doesn't?

All these clips get a +1 from me anyways

I've enjoyed them less as the years have gone by, but it's hard to tell how much of that is just my perception due to my tastes changing/maturing and becoming more jaded and cynical and all that. Comedy in general has become more sophisticated as well, as have other animated shows, and that affects perception.

It's still not terrible imo, but perhaps it should have wounds down before now. Few things can go ten seasons, let alone twenty.

See? Can't keep the simpsons down.

How about the episode where Marge rage quits Homer out of punch out, just before he can beat Bart?

Well my tastes did change but I can still go back and watch the first 10 seasons and laugh, newer ones I just find painful to sit through.

Yeah, it's good although after the first five minutes it's a clip show.
