Registered 16 years ago300 calories per 100g is fairly high, half a kilo of dinner would be 1500 calories. I eat more than 500g of an evening but then I probably eat a fair chunk over 2500 per day too. -

Registered 13 years agoEnded up getting a recommendation from a friend and went with this
300g strong white bread flour
7g fast action yeast
5g salt
230ml ish cold water
Drizzle of olive oil
Gonna let it prove for another hour and I should easily get a couple of large pizzas out of that. Might attempt a stuffed crust if i'm feeling fancy aswell. Dough is looking pretty good so far and looks to be a decent size. Hopefully it'll turn out alright for a first effort. -

Registered 11 years agoThis thread has major potential if we share the recipe's, post pictures and make this even better than that burger thread.
I've always wanted to find the perfect recipe for a homemade pizza that doesn't require a pizza oven or anything like that. -

Is that a pizza stone?
Out of interest, what's the cost of ingredients that went into that? -

Registered 13 years ago@mal Yup. Got the pizza stone a Christmas or two ago I think and i've only really just started to use it.
As for cost i'm not sure really. Certainly much less than your average takeaway I would think. Mozzarella was a quid, cheap can of peeled tomatoes, leftover chorizo, bit of a sliced ham and some herbs? Very cheap.

Has any brave soul ever attempted a homemade Chicago style pizza? Those deep dish ones. They look lovely. -

Registered 13 years agoI quite like the naan bread for a base homemade pizza option. Just requires a tin of tomatoes add whatever herbs you like, Salt, pepper reduce that for half hour. Smear onto naan add mozzarella whack in oven on high temp (approx 210) cook for about ten minutes (or until cheese starts to brown) and voila. -

Registered 20 years agoI've been putting the Bank Holiday to good use by doing some research into the latest trends in home authentic pizza production.
I dabbled with a pizza stone on the BBQ last summer, and it had potential, but is a bit of a faff. I got a new book, which reckons the best way in the kitchen is to start them off on a cast iron pan on the hob, then move it into a toasty oven.
But on doing research, I came across the Baking Steel - works like a pizza stone in the oven, but with much better heat transfer - so you get the quick cook on the base you are after. And reading around, it seems to work.
With shipping from the USA, it's a bit pricey - but reading forums, other tight arses like myself have figured out it's basically a piece of sheet steel. There are a few suppliers on eBay, but I've emailed some local metal fabricators to get a quote. Will update when I get things up and running! -

Registered 10 years ago@BillMurray I know this is about 10 months late but that pizza looks fucking delicious. Did you follow an exact recipe or just make it up as you went? -

ta very much! -
My kids prefer Dominos to 2 really good pizza places near us, one with an amazing wood-fired oven - it's a big clay dome with some burning logs inside. I think it's down to marketing and advertising.
Just wait till I'm whipping them off my bit of steel plate.gif)
I've also purchased a pizza peel (the long-handled spade thing).
