Right then, with the news going up about the free-to-play launch for Tuesday, I thought I'd see if anyone was interested in forming a Eurogamer kinship. Those who are playing are spread around a few servers at the moment and I don't think we have a collective thing going on.
I'm on Snowbourn but if enough people are interested in giving it a go I don't mind re-rolling. So, anyone planning to take the plunge and try it out?
Edit we're on Snowbourn and the Kinship is called The Smaugasbord

My characters were on Snowbourn as well. -

Registered 16 years agoTHF - I think it's an unwritten rule of all MMOs now that you never delete a character. For the sake of a few bytes of database space, you don't want to stop people putting the spike back in their arm. To the best of my knowledge, Turbine/Codies have never deleted a character.
If we have other people on Snowbourn, I'd like to stick here if it won't cause any drama or stop the kinship happening. I will start a character from scratch though so we can level up at the same rate and hit some instances.
Assuming the server's alright, what about the kinship name? No offense to the originator of this common EG name but I'm fine with just about anything except New Level. There is no room for boy bands in Middle Earth. -

Registered 16 years agoI'm pretty sure you can download the client just now, it'll just need patched for the changes. At least I hope the existing client works, it'd be a pain if it didn't. -

Registered 16 years agoWell, patch is having some major connection issues, wrong hash codes etc. I would grab the direct client on the side if you're having no luck patching up.
Forums are down as well but I suppose a surge is to be expected. -

Registered 16 years agoI'm not so fussy that I'll download the whole blinking thing again, so I do hope they fix it.
Still, having actually bothered to check it seems you get 2 character slots, which I think is per server, so anyone that doesn't have one on Snowbourn could make one, even freeloaders like me.gif)
However, it is one of the high population servers so there might be queues. If that's the case it might be worth starting on a low pop server. Time will tell if that'll be the case though - I expect it should be fine. -

Registered 16 years agoIt didn't occur to me that people using the free-to-play scheme would be subject to log-in queues so I'm up for a fresh start on Withywindle which is the new server being launched.
On the other hand, that server may end up flooded so it may be a case of queues there. -

Registered 13 years agoNot sure, Bloodloss, but I doubt you'll be able to log-in anyway. I keep getting a time-out whenever I try to sign-in.
I know they're all happy about the F2P move and things but they should be giving priority to subscribers/lifetimers when it comes to logging in. -

Registered 16 years agoAre you trying to log into the game or get the patch? If it's the hash code error I think it's being worked on (or even fixed now).
If it's the game, none of the servers have been brought online yet:

Registered 16 years agoOh, I have just read above - are people playing on withywindle? I imagine a lot more lower level players will be on that server which would be good for the grouping/social aspect. Don't really want to be leveling in ghost towns.
On the flipside, withywindle will definitely be full of wow kids which is a major downside.

The new character creation screen is too cluttered. These shoes smell. Why can't I get a decent hotdog these days. Get off my lawn. -

Registered 16 years agoQueuing - I think as free to players, it will be the same whether you pick a new server or an established one.
Population - good point although I would expect a lot of subscribers to be bringing friends to the game and on their server.
I don't want to make the decision on which server as I have a vested interest in saying Snowbourn - therefore, someone else make the call and I'll go with the crowd.
Also, kinship name - I'm absolutely stuck, these are all terrible, I already know:
Eurotrash
The Europeans
Death by Papercut
Help My Hands Are on Fire*
Army of Socks / Sock Army
(* actually that's probably the best one which shows how stuck I am)
Edit - a random name generator gave me "Spastic Legion". Damn shame we couldn't use that -
