Free is good. I was mostly concerned about the money cap, so nice to lift that without real money. The Store I general feels a tad clumbersome, but I can't really complain.

Is removing the cap a store option?

Yep. Subscribers can earn all the gold they want, for the rest it's a purchasable option. Not that it matters early on, you'll not earn enough early on.

That's good to know for future reference. Not for me, but for people who might want to try it out. And yeah, it takes a while to amass cash in LOTRO so it's probably not that big a deal early on.

I take it we're waiting for InfiniteFury getting online on Monday before we get the Kinship together? Not that I'm in a hurry, I'm just not sure what needs done - is there a minimum level? Do you need to organise a group to be online at the same time? Cash requirement?

I forgot how good LOTRO is though. As a free game it's an absolute bargain, and the restrictions are barely restrictive at all - I'm still hours & hours off having to buy a new quest pack, and even then that's only if I choose to do more questing. It really feels like a solid game, well worth trying out.

I believe you visit the Clerk of Kinships in the Town Hall. Or somebody in that area. They'll then sell you a guild charter, IIRC.

And it's a superb game. I've just finished the latest Epic chapter and it's freaking awesome. Bioware need to take notes.

Well if it needs cash I think I'll allow InfiniteFury the honour then, being all established and experienced already ;)

My quick google says you need at least 8 members or it gets wiped, so we'll need a few people to invite. By all means anyone here do feel free to add me (Dfawkes, like here so it's easy to remember).

If you just need some bodies to make up the numbers, let me know and I'll roll-up a temp on Snowbourne. I'm pretty sure it earns me some TPs anyway... Don't you get free points for each character you make?

No idea iok, though it'd be great to have you with us, if only in an alt form.

I didn't realise the only character I had left on this is only 4 or 5 hours in. I've almost caught up with him, so creating an alt on Snowbourn has been fun - plus there are Turbine Points to be earned!

So who have we got that's interested? So far I can see:

InfiniteFury (the OP and our probable Kinship leader)
Dfawkes (utter prick, avoid when possible)
Bennomir (better than Boromir as he doesn't attempt Hobbit rape for jewellery. I hope)
iokthemonkey (maybe just an alt, but a worthwhile EG alt)
Whizzo (already on Snowbourn, which is nice)
Mike P (a passing interest, don't know if you've started playing but if not DO IT! It's very good)
Ranger_Ryu (again possibly not, but please do as it won't be the same without you)

And maybe some others that were curious, like Bloodloss. Certainly don't be put off by the Free to Play though, I've been playing from a new character for 4 hours and the only real restriction has been Lvl 5 mounts are locked to people that pay for it. You can still use the fast travel horses though, and that really is the only thing that I've really missed - I also bought extra inventory space, but I've never used it yet. I just like having it.

I'll get round to downloading it soon (unless a PC mag puts the cilent on thier demo disc) the only thing putting me of is that 10 gig download.........not even downloaded anything close to that before

The download on the official site is actually a thinly veiled torrent program. I downloaded it over a few days no problem.

As for the questing curve, I've been told that it's a very good one that provides quests consistently. Not sure when you'll need to pony up for more though.

My main is Jonty but as he's a level 46 captain I doubt I'll use him with you folks! My second is late teens too so I'll probably do a reroll, I did have a fairly low level Hobbit but I appear to have lost him when my character slots got dropped to three leaving the Elf I had created to check out the Elven start zone.

I've never ground XP in LOTRO. I got to 65 with plenty of quests still left over, so you'll be fine.

Hello! I've been pre-occupied a bit longer than I was expecting. I'll set up the kinship tomorrow night although there's only 24 hours between creating it and getting the necessary 8 members before it self-destructs.

Will that be alright for everyone or would it best be left until the weekend?

I'm good for tomorrow. I'll probably be on every night this week.

Everyone else should try LOTRO. Really. It's awesome and at an awesome price.

Give me a shout (here) when you're going to be on and we'll meet-up. I've gone back to my original server (sorry!), as I found Snowbourn's population to be a bit arsey. I don't play LOTRO to discuss WOW.

There are some arsey people about, no doubts there.

Guy A: [Advice] "Could someone tell me when the Auction House is please?"
Guy B: [Still on the Advice channel] "Stop spamming."

That was the only time that guy asked. It's not like he was a long time member bitter at thr freeness, he was a level 7 that was asking his own questions.

That's why we need more EGers! Come, join, and we'll lend the server a little bit more class and distinction to it.

There was what seemed like a 10 minute discussion on people ''spamming'' in non-English languages, because somebody had sent ''Swedish Guild Recruitment: Henky plorpy durple durple? Ja, compty blurple boo. Thank You.'' to the OOC channel. Once.

And then there are the constant, ''wow is better wtf? i haev too pay for mi hoerse?????'' (Forgetting the fact that WoW is subs-based...)

I actually saw that Swedish Guild one, he was on about it all bloody night at half hour intervals, and he's online a lot.

I'm only 10 hours in so far, but I've still not reached anything I'd have to buy to enjoy it anymore. I chose to buy the currency cap increase with my freebie points, but I've never hit 1 Gold never mind the allowed 3 yet.

There is still lots of optional stuff to buy though, like early horse-riding ability, extra bag slots and cosmetic stuff, but I reckon I'm still hours and hours off of needing anything.

I'd go with extra bag slots if I were you - that means more loot = more money.

As for the early mounts, don't bother - they're not much cop. Wait until your Level 20 one. You'll need 95 TP to buy the skill, though.

I don't need bag slots, I'm never that far between vendors yet.

The crafting system is easily my favourite in any MMO out there, the stuff I can make is actually of some use to me.

I hope a few more people get into it - I was looking for some player-made components on the AH but nobody was selling what I needed. BAH!

I'm not sure if I'm any help, but if you need any metal bars or treated wood, I'll remember to keep it for you, or indeed other Kinship members once we've got one.

Cheers, but it's a specific part made by - I think - Weaponsmiths. And it's on the other server...

Alright folks, The Smaugasbord has been created. I just picked it as it's not a bad little pun (cheers for the suggestion) and it also has a European flavour to it so it just made the most sense.

If you want in, look up Stormweasel online.
