Any recommendations? (smartphones and netbooks don't qualify) Browsing experience is the most important bit here. I don't care about apps, media capabilities, cameras, storage, battery life, 3G connectivity, etc. Destined purely for -sofa- internet browsing. cheers P.S Why the hell doesn't someone make a "pure" €250 browsing tablet, stripped from all the stupid gimmicks? |
Best "budget" tablet for internet browsing

Registered 15 years agoThere is the Apad which seems cheap but slow and outdated softwarewise.
Archos make some too, but there are not many competitors to the iPad yet... early next year there may be better prospects. -

At that price, it seems to be interesting at the very least. -

Here's a vid of it in action, it looks very speedy and responsive compared to similarly priced tablets. I'm waiting of the 3G version to launch next year personally but for people just wanting a basic Wi-Fi tablet it looks like a bargain. -

It may be out this weekend.
I'd give your local Dixons a ring on saturday and ask if they've got any in then. -

Registered 11 years agoDo the Dixons group have some kind of exclusivity on the Vega? I like the look of the product, but don't want to get ripped off by high-street stores. If this appeared on Amazon though it'd be very tempting. -

Emm...as I mentioned earlier I would like to avoid laptops/netbooks. -
Well IMO, tablets are shit, plus laptops have built in stands/keyboards -

Good price, only a resistive touch screen though (where as the Vega is capacitive), and videos of it on Youtube look choppy at best -

Yes I'd like one of those please.
An iPad would be greedy but I reckon if you all clubbed together you could buy me one of these. First one to PM can have my address to send it to. -

Looks promising, can you give us a brief review when it turns up? Specifically I'd like to know what it's like for reading PDF magazines (no, not that kind you filthy beggars)

Ooooooo!!!!
Hmmm, the price and spec look good, but the complete lockdown of Android to all things Amazon is a bit off-putting. Could be interested if someone manages to get a custom rom on it. -

The lower price point and 7 inch screen make it sound pretty tempting. If Amazon do a good job with the UI this could well be an essential purchase.
