No one has said it recently but it's often used as an excuse for us being shit.

We must accept and embrace our shitness to improve.

Any Pool fans know anything about Harry Wilson? In the Wales squad tonight.

The Grauniad are reporting Andros Townsend will be starting tonight instead of Wilshere.

  • Deleted user 11 October 2013 17:36:59
    Wilshere isn't English enough.
  • Deleted user 11 October 2013 17:44:15
    I wonder if Welshit is?
  • Deleted user 11 October 2013 18:15:21

The problem is that, after nearly 15 years, 'how do you play them both in the same team?' has tainted both their england careers.

But, yeah, what you wouldnt give for a FM style regen for frank lampard.
I think he's one of those players people were talking about a couple of pages back, someone who works incredibly hard, stays behind after training etc and damn it's paid off, especially for someone who may not necessarily be the most naturally gifted footballer.

When you look at the youngsters coming through, I can't see anyone that really stands out as being the next Beckham or even the next Gerrard/Lampard/Scholes - Wilshere is probably the closest, but his attitude doesn't seem quite right at the moment. I know he's still young though, so hopefully that will change!

I know Lukaku has got a lot of praise recently, not just for his attitude on the pitch but also for his attitude off it. Everton have some great English youngsters too so hopefully it rubs off!
Barkley and Morrison have just as much of a potential.

Morrison... really? Off the back of a couple of good games?

Erm no, off the back of the fact he's been one of the most promising youngsters at academy level for years, single handedly destroying teams at that level.
Granted its development squad level, but every club knows of his abilities. It was his attitude that's the problem.

Massive if, but if he can maximise his potential then he has the potential to be a phenomenal player.

And I did specifically say he "has the potential", not that he necessarily will.

Exactly. I think the idea that seen the best of England is ridiculous quite frankly. I'll say the future is certainly of hope, as we're seeing a new generation of players who can actually use the ball properly, coming through good academies that factor that in.

Right now its a bit staggered, with each England age group having a few, but the lower you go, the more there are.

I made a claim a few years back that a young West Ham CB called Leo Chambers will break through. He's still a few years away, but I think he's already featured on the bench at West Ham for their League Cup game. Has the potential to be a very complete defender (big strong, yet very technical and a ball playing CB).

I'm not gonna claim the future is bright, but I disagree that we'll be looking back fondly on the days of a Gerard-FFL combo.

Not to mention Gibbs, Jenkinson, Ox, Zaha, Butland, Shaw, Chalobah, Ince, Powell, Redmon, Sterling

There's plenty of talented young English players with potential. Unless you mean 18 year old players who are already world beaters.
Have to say that list is more depressing than promising. Zaha hasn't featured for Man Utd this season, Ox has been demoted to the benches now that Flamini and Ozil have been drafted in, Powell, Butland, Ince and others play outside top flight football, Sterling was obviously pinched to stop him from representing Jamaica.

Only Gibbs and Jenkinson will progress to the national team as they are playing regular first team PL and Champions League football.

Ah, didn't know that. Just heard him described as Burundi in commentary etc. They're normally a bit more specific in those situations.

Express reckons we've agreed a deal with Honda on a free in Jan.

Probably bollocks but would be nice.

I think we are going for the arsenal / chelsea approach ;-)

Seems a strange one if true. Good player from what I've seen but certainly not a position we need to strengthen in. Unless he can also play full back?

According to the Express he's also a forward!

Certainly ringing the 'bollocks' bell but you never know.

More chance of Red Bull Palace or Red Bull Ham I'd think.

Only other London is Fulham, apart from Chelsea and Spurs, and can't see that happening what with the new owner.

Red Bull Villa has got a good ring to it. As has Red Bull Sports Direct.

They'd be better off buying up an Italian team.

    a) they need the money and
    b) it wouldn't take much now to get a team into the CL in that league.
