We were ALMOST in second place at Christmas, can't remember the last time I could say that! -

Registered 16 years agoAusterity doesn't work in government any better than it does in football. Neither does spending without thought for how to organise that spending. We have prime examples of the two things in Villa and Spurs at the moment. Our wages are now under control but we appear to lack any quality on the pitch and a manager who is struggling to organise his side.
Alternatively you have Spurs who spent a fortune and are struggling to organise their side and have got rid of the manager. I suspect it will work out better for the club spending the small fortune than the club going through austerity.
I'm a bit fucked off at the moment. We were woeful again today and I suspect I should probably avoid the next run of games as it's not going to get any better until we're in the bottom 3. We narrowly escaped relegation last season and I'm really beginning to doubt the chance of performing that feat again. Even if, by some chance, we do, then I think whatever plan is in place will be so wrecked that a new manager will be drafted in and it'll be the same shit again.
Wouldn't be at all surprised if Villa are on the market in the summer, we have a chairman who isn't putting any money in, out of either protectionism of his wealth or some worry about FFP which doesn't even apply to a team pissing about at the bottom of the league.

Not sure once at old trafford in 14 months can stretch to 'starting scoring'.

Registered 10 years ago@Mr_Sleep I'm getting bored of counter attacking football. He says he isn't O'Neill but that's exactly what he did. Houllier was making progress. Yes we lost a lot of games, but we were playing some nice football. -
What a finish Kompany! Exquisite. -

Carragher always got away with it as well. None of the top six or so clubs are ever going to concede a penalty for that.

Coincidentally, on 29th Dec Mark Clattenberg is coming back to Goodison to referee for the first time since that game - 6 years he's been kept away for some reason...

One dive IMO and booked for it. Doing it in the middle of the pitch is very different from in the area, still wrong though obviously.
Some rather blatant diving from Januzaj today, I'm sure a lot of United fans will be offering him a free trip to the airport come January in line with their policy on Ashley Young... -

Yep, although I thought today was a bit different in this regard, it wasn't set out as counter attack, there was a definite move to wingers and trying to get balls in the box. We didn't actually play all that badly in patches, it's just that the team is toothless when on the attack, there are rarely any runs from midfield or anything that looks like it will lead to a goal. We are going backwards and it is evident on the pitch that either the players or Lambert aren't good enough. You have to wonder what he is building as it all looks like regression at the moment.

Maybe investment will be present in January which will steady the ship but it doesn't look likely with Lerner. -

Who cares who came up with it. Tho Crouch said it ages ago.

Fuck knows, but it's much funnier when applied to Crouch in particular. He knows he's punching waaaaay above his weight.
