It was through this little twitter feud that I've learned that Michael Owen has only watched 8 films ever.

He must be fun at parties.

If only he had been privileged enough to have been born a white Italian, he would understand it is entirely his own fault.

They throw bananas on the pitch as a respectful tribute to Donkey Kong. Who of course has links to famous Italian plumber, Mario.

I've been to various cities all over Italy with friends from loads of races(black, asian etc) over the years and the racist comments and jokes I've heard from random italians in the street and bars and things has been incredible and from no particular kind of group either. Old, young, male, female, it didn't seem to make any difference. Yeah, not racist at all

Yeah, I read that earlier and it was gobsmacking. I can only assume that the racism is so deeply ingrained that they don't perceive it. Which, in fairness, has been the case with certain language and expressions and unconscious bias in the UK for decades. We're better at recognising and calling it out now, but still have a long way to go.

If that statement genuinely reflects Italian opinion then they're basically saying they don't see a problem with such behaviour and it won't change.

Hopefully they don't speak for all Italians.

The mistake people always make is to focus on their own intent, rather than the damage that is done.

How have you guys talked about Michael Owen without someone posting a link to either his helicopter video or him scoring past a 13 year old. This place is going to the dogs.

Ay, gotta say though I was reluctant on The Athletic (and still not convinced the Silicon Valley VC model of "blitzscaling" will work for their business model in the long run), I've genuinely been enjoying my subscription.

It's like reading all the well-written and investigative journalism that some papers like The Guardian or The Times, do, but....every day (near enough).

The Athletic & Medium are now my 2 most used apps.

So… how has it worked: have they done a Man City and thrown enough money at all our 'favourite' journalists so that they have all upped sticks?

That's basically the plan, different journalist catering to different sports and clubs.

In truth, I'm surprised as to the amount of coverage EFL clubs get. They tend to have the best insight stories of football in general.

Please. Gerrard isn't even the best Liverpool midfielder of the last 15 years; that title belongs to Xabi Alonso.

Owen really is a total wanker, isn't he?
I mean, when he was still playing he was always pretty delusional about his own injuries and stuff and bloody hell..

Hey! Long time! Hope you are doing well, think I probably had two kids since you were last here lol.

Hard to tell who’s still around anymore, they made it easy to change username so I can’t keep up.
