Yeah some of those are well off it seems. E.g. I'm fairly certain they have averaged Willian's signing on fee across his contract. Which inflates it. Who knows for certain, but some of those feel really far off. |

Registered 3 years agoLooks like Balogun is going to agree a move to a foreign club. Either we're being held to ransom by his agent or we're letting go someone insanely talented.. Eddie seems more up the pecking order atm but he hasn't had a great season. From what I've seen of Balogun he looks really bloody good. -

Registered 18 years agoIt's probably playing time that he wants. He does look good, but at the same time it's hard to get all hand wringy about it. -

Registered 3 years agoI think we do have every right.. because Laca is nearing his 30s. Auba is in his 30s.. there's no foresight in our youth/transfers at times. Are we going to go out and land another striker in the next few windows?

They both have the same agent too, which might have made discussions a bit trickier. After seeing how successful other talented young English players have been in Europe, can totally understand why he'd want to move there to get more playing time and help his stock rise even more.

Registered 18 years agoMeh, I'd obviously like to to keep him but also think it's unlikely that he'll be a 25-30 goal a season striker in the near term. Ideally we'd get him to sign a new contract, loan him abroad for a season and then integrate him. But if he wants to move on, so be it. As I say, not going to stress about it. -

Registered 10 years agoIf it were a choice I'd prefer to keep Balogun and lose Eddie. No real rationale beyond gut feeling that Balogun might have a higher ceiling. I'm fairly confident that Nketia will never be more than a squad player whereas Balogun seems more of an unknown.
Not that fussed about him leaving, it's more that it'll be yet another player who had considerable market value going for nothing. More wasted resources. -

I agree, but that's probably why he's leaving - Balogun probably feels he's already good enough to be on the first team somewhere, whereas Eddie is happy to be a squad player.

Registered 16 years agoBalogun will be amazing. Absolutely sure of it. Easily a 20 goal a season striker in two years.
I'm also absolutely sure it won't be for us. -

That would be great. At the very least if you could knock them around and tire them out a bit that would be really awesome for the rest of us.

I wonder if that will have any impact on the midweek fixture with Spurs. If you’re able to field an FA Cup side how can you then say you don’t have enough players for the league?

Hope you are right. I think he's already had his head turned by someone like Dortmund who has offered him more money and a starting role.

Seems unfortunately it will take an older manager getting it bad or a universally loved played going down with long Covid to spark anything. -

Yeah those poor Newcastle lads keep springing to mind. To potentially have your career cut short and your life affected for however long it may be for the sake of playing games in front of no one, all so you can honour a TV deal is a shit state of affairs no matter what money you are on.
Like I say though, until it's a big name manager or a key United/City/Liverpool type player it seems to be put up or shut up.
