It's not supposed to be available to ANYONE that's not in the priority list. It would be a PR disaster for the team, the players, the league and whoever provided the vaccine. They damn well better not get vaccinated before they're due. Edited by General_Martok at 07:40:50 13-01-2021 |

Registered 10 years agoAgree, there's no reasonable argument for them being prioritised over high risk groups. In Slovakia some sports stars and celebrities have apparently jumped the queue and people went nuts.
Roy Hodgson might get his through normal channels soon though.

It's the usual difficulty people have in making tradeoffs. 1 persons life against improvements in 1000 peoples mental health, or 10,000 people being more likely to be stricter on obeying lockdown for longer (which may in itself lead to many people being saved).
How do you judge that trade ? The "won't someone just think of the children" argument is just the obvious appeal to emotion rather than actually thinking through the logic of the proposition and weighing a little amount of good for the many against a lot of good for the few. -

Registered 11 years agoIt's not a world where just the Premier League exists. They'd have to go as far down as games that are allowed currently, so National League level. That includes all players, coaches, medical staff. That's before you even mention reserve teams etc. It would take thousands of vaccinations that simply can not be spared right now. -

They wouldn't "have" to do anything. Ways could be found to keep just part of the entertainment going should they wish to. It's a man made system, it's not like you are trying to defy the laws of physics.

I agree that it would be more than just the players, you would obviously need the support staff with high risk of contact too.
Anyway, I suspect it will be moot, because there will be private jabs available soon, and when you're paying players hundreds of thousands a week to play the cost of those jabs will be insignificant compared to the amount of money involved in other parts of the business. -

There is no *reasonable* argument to take vaccines away from the elderly and give it to the young and incredibly fit.
Maybe when we get down to giving vaccines to 30-18 year olds it would be reasonable to vaccinate football players.
It's football, it's as far away from essential as me needing a wank everyday. Football shouldn't be required for mental health either. Do exercise yourself instead of watching other people do it. That will be far more beneficial to your overall health.

Registered 15 years agoThen football shouldn’t be happening. Which is what we probably all thing. But in the context of an exception being made, that IMO creates a reasonable case for exceptions to be made with the vaccine also. -

Registered 5 years agoFootball shouldn't be happening. We should stop the league now and declare the winners based on current positions.
...
I do agree football shouldn't be happening though.

Registered 11 years agoThe earlier point has very little to do with whether it was ethically right to consider vaccinating footballers, more the logistics at this point.
It's far less simple than just going "let's vaccinate them" in this very early moment of the rollout. Unless we're doing Project Big Picture II: Vaccine Edition. Which would, yes, be wrong. -

Registered 8 years agoYeah constantly sitting on 1-0 leads is always going to end badly. As we’ve seen multiple times this season. It’s really strange as we clearly have the players to put games to bed. -

I don’t think we’ve been super negative today. Decent amount of possession and shots. More just one of those games this time.
Think we’ll lose.
