Registered 18 years agoGah. Shame West Ham couldn't get even a point there. Super interesting season up until about January and after one month I just CBA to watch much more of it now. The race for the top 4 places just doesn't hold that much interest. Fair play to City, somehow they seem to be even more impervious than Liverpool were last season. -

Registered 15 years agoMason has had an absolute mare there. It’s obvious what happened, he blew for the kick to be taken before checking the goalie was ready. Mistakes happen although it’s very poor, but what’s really embarrassing is them desperately using VAR to find some sort of infringement to get him out of trouble. That’s really not what it’s for. -

Registered 9 years agoHe looks like an absolute cock. The whole system - bar VAR itself - needs replacing. Scrap all the refs, get in younger and fitter ones - as well as those that can actually handle the situation. Telling a bunch of players to "stand the fuck over there while I make a decision" should be a basic requirement. -

Registered 15 years agoIt was a fuck up but it happens. VAR in its current state is in my view ruining football. Suggesting all refs need to be scrapped (I am unclear why) fixes nothing. The offside rules and VAR and how refs and assistant refs should be using the technology needs immediate review. -

Registered 12 years agoThing I don't get is from albeit limited experience (watching Arsenal in the EL and some CL games) it doesn't seem to be the same clusterfuck in Europe. I also remember the World Cup it was used in being generally fine and being convinced by the end of it that it would improve the PL (because of the quality of refereeing, which is the common denominator here). -

Registered 10 years agoPersonally I think the refs do make too many mistakes, but it's because they are under too much pressure. I would massively clamp down on player behaviour. Just book any player who questions the ref except the Captain. Book a player for swearing. Book them for appealing anything, the ref isn't an umpire, they are a referee. Send off managers if they mouth off from the side lines. Just clean up the game and change the culture. It's only football where you can just harrass the officials without consequence.
That should lower the temperature over time and give them space to decide on facts without the emotion from the teams. Then use var for clear and obvious errors and incidents that the ref didn't see.
