    Saka's statement. :(

    https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/jul/15/englands-bukayo-saka-urges-social-media-platforms-to-act-after-racial-abuse

That he says he knew he'd get abuse is a sad indictment on this country. Wankers

To step up, knowing the additional abuse you’ll get if you miss makes it even more impressive that he did so. He seems like a great kid and great player. Jealous he is at your club not mine!

It's a sad indictment of wider society. A number of people (including Southgate) have pointed out that a lot of the online abuse is coming from abroad.

Of course, there were also plenty of English 'fans' posting disgusting comments - I'm not deflecting from the problems we clearly have in this country! - just saying racism is a global issue.

Edit: and yes, these idiots are complete arse holes - I really hope a decent number get prosecuted for their vile posts!

Oh it's definitely a global issue. Only have to look at the likes of Hungary to see how far we still have to go. And we had made great strides but have stalled in the last few years. Although I guess those views were always there, just suppressed and now emboldened. Two steps forward and all that.

It doesn't make the abuse any less sickening, but it is heartening to see the amount of positivity and support beneath those statements on social media. It may at least go some way to making a few of the fuckers see how much they are despised. The composure shown by all three is also really something.

Yeah that Hungary has a problem doesn’t make me feel any better that fans at the Riverside booed the knee in warm-up game. I’ve seen loads of matches there and it always had a great atmosphere and was very family inclusive and now this?

Then they were confident they could do it at Wembley during the tournament and the second Rashford hit the post.

Fifa proposing new rules for football:

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/soccer/breaking-down-fifas-proposed-rule-changes-including-shorter-matches/ar-AAMgA7j

FIFA president Gianni Infantino is looking to shorten matches, stop the clock when the ball goes out of play, allow unlimited substitutions, create sin bins for yellow cards and take throw-ins with the feet.
They'll shoehorn an ad break in for every stoppage and substitution

It's Americanisation that just won't go well. Can genuinely see if they try it that leagues will just pull out

I think they’re all positive changes. Guarantee 60 mins of the ball in play a game would be a great thing.

And the punishment really doesn’t fit the crime a lot of the time with yellow cards. Just need to add bookings for cumulative fouls too, 3 fouls = yellow and off the pitch for 10 mins is ideal.

You can be booked for persistent fouling now though

The stopped clock thing has some appeal but the rest? Just not for me.

Where’s the advantage in a corner if you can get a kick in from a yard down the line?

Sin bins are disproportional to me.

It all just changes the character of the game too much

Yeah, but there’s no consistency to it. And if you’ve mastered the art like Busquets or Fernandinho, you can suddenly get away with 5/6/7 fouls with no real consequences.

The clock thing is decent as it removes time wasting, the rest isn't great though.

They don't need to stop the clock just actually give the proper amount of extra time. Can't be hard to have one of the officials with a stopwatch for these moments?

I suppose you avoid the confusion that lots of fans and commentators have that added time is a minimum of x minutes not a total of x minutes added

So, what about Sigurdsson? I say innocent until proven Gylfi.

Jokes aside I hope he's cleared because no fanbase deserves to be associated with that. It's horrible.

Now (basically, given Delph is our only other 31 year old player) confirmed by Everton

    https://www.evertonfc.com/news/2193203/club-statement

Had been a lot of rumours flying around this weekend plus his wife deleted her Instagram. Best we don't speculate further.
