I take it we've already done "9 out of 10 people enjoy gang rape"?

Bicycles and home brew you say... If you also make handmade shoes, then I'm going to start suspecting some sort of Fight Club style dual personality thing happening.

You do your own mash or extract?

@elstoof I've been brewing from grain for about the last 12 months. I use a technique called Brew In a Bag (BIAB, for short obvs.) I started out with kits, but wanted to try something more flexible after a few of them.

BIAB avoids all that pissing about with sparging the mash, only needs one big pan for the mashing and boiling and the extraction efficiency is good. Last lot I did was an American-Style pale ale with cascade hops. Nice and crisp, and about 5.2% ABV.

I do not make shoes. The other me does that.

I'm currently putting together a mash tun using the water cooler and copper manifold method, in between various other projects. I have rather too many projects.

Back to topic, I'm an expert in very high end, handmade and bespoke footwear but in the traditional crafts people tend to prefer the term Master.

I am a personal license holder to authorise the sale of alcohol so anything related to the pub trade like fat people drinking diet coke.

    All hail the ale

Which is the best of ales?
  • Deleted user 6 September 2012 22:18:04
@pinebear there is no best ale. It all depends on personal taste. Personally I love pedigree. Its lush when kept right in lines which are cleaned and flushed every 9 gallon firkin

@elstoof That sounds pretty cool - got any photos of the work in progress?

And that also sounds like a very unusual profession. How did you get into that?

@MikeP No photos of mine, work hasn't really started in earnest yet just mucking around with it before final build. There are tons of pics on brewing websites of various builds though, all designs are essentially the same.

With the shoemaking, it was something I'd wanted to work in for a good few years, I've always liked making things and always liked shoes so putting the two together was a bit of a no brainer. I'm from an arty background anyway so I had a few skills that I could adapt and a decent eye so did a bit of research, got in touch with a firm with a long history and luckily they were looking to take on a "lad" and that was that. Now I get to make things for Royals, actors, hedge funders and all sorts of weird and wacky clients.
