Had a mastersystem for Xmas one year and a copy of Outrun, managed to convince myself it was actually better than the arcade version, though clearly its not even close I still enjoyed it. Same for Space harrier. Other games of note for me were secret comand, r type, shinobi and Ghost House. |

Registered 8 years agoI don't remember Choplifter being built in.
Wasn't it either Hang-On and latterly Alex Kidd in Miracle World? -

Registered 12 years agoMine was the very first model, so the only game it had built in was Snail Maze. I had no clue that this was even a thing and found it completely by accident one afternoon (you had to hold 1, 2 and Up with no cartridge inserted). My young mind was completely blown

Were there instructions in the console manual for the snail maze? Me and my brother used to play it, but can't imagine how we found it unless it was written somewhere! We were just nippers.

Had a friend in primary school whose house I'd go to after school and we'd just sit there for an hour and play Secret Command, Ghost House, Action Fighter and Fantasy Zone until it was time for tea. We lost touch when we went to different secondary schools, but that same "friend" got back in touch with me a few years later, paid me a visit, and nicked my copy of Final Fantasy 7. Bastard. Turns out he ended up in prison a year after he finished school.
A few years later my little sister got a used MS2 (the one with Alex Kidd built in) along with a few games. Unfortunately she didn't like any of the games it came with and only played Alex Kidd on it before selling it again. I had quite a bit of fun with Sagaia, she also got Shadow of the Beast with the console but it was a load of gash, especially given that I already had the Amiga version.

Ours had Hang On and Duck Hunt built in. Duck Hunt worked very well as I recall. -

Registered 15 years agoLoved the Master System! I remember it having some good horror themed games for the time, notably Bram Stoker's Dracula and even better than that a game called Master of Darkness which both looked and sounded great for a MS game.
Other MS games I loved; built-in Sonic 1, Terminator, Robocop vs Terminator, Rastan, Ghost Busters, Lucky Dime Caper, Transbot, Jungle Book, Lion King, Castle of Illusion, Fantasy Zone, R-type. -

Ninja Gaiden was a great game on the Master System. I prefer it to the nes versions. -

Yes! This nails the reason why I loved Psycho Fox. You could take ridiculous leaps of faith that would reveal huge parts of the level maps you'd have no idea were there. In many ways it made the game feel like a hybrid of Mario and Sonic. I have very fond memories of hurtling through it whilst blasting INX's Kick on my ghetto-blaster. God I loved that game.
I loved Psycho Fox. No one else I knew had it though and I never saw it in any magazines or anything. So I felt a bit isolated in my experience of it. I must have chosen it based on the box art and screenshots on the back.
My over riding memory of it is running and jumping and seeing clouds flying passed as you fell and just hoping you landed somewhere safe. Or if you knew the level, landing vaguely where thought you would. Sometimes you'd land on platforms you never knew existed by doing leaps of faith. That sense of falling and flying great distances into the unknown is always what I remember though. -
@Devilligan
Psycho Fox was one of the better platformers on the system. But the movement was very sluggish, which I found an odd decision by the developers. -

Funny, I seem to remember flying through some of the levels. Maybe one of the later animal characters you unlock was faster. I vaguely remember a hippo who was slow but could punch through blocks and a tiger or leopard who was pretty zippy. -
When you first start off on Psycho fox you were painfully slow. It's not until you gain momentum that your character sped up. Great game though I still play it a bit once a year-ish.
