What's everyone planning to cook for christmas dinner this year?

Round are house there'll only be two of us eating this year so instead of getting an enormous Turkey or Goose that we'd never finish we're thinking about getting a Guinea Fowl, but we've never tried one before.

Has anyone here tried one? If so, what did you serve it with and what was it like?

    The traditional dinner.

Turkey (I like it, okay?), roast potatoes, roast parsnips, stuffing, sausages wrapped in bacon, brussel sprouts...

Yep, the standard (but awesome) traditional with a few Kenyan extras. And with the in laws being Kenyan all the guys can put their feet up while the women slave away in the kitchen \o/

Unless anything needs built of course.

Usually do a huge ham just for me and the wife either a couple days before or after Xmas day to pickon for ages with a orange juice and coke baste, may not sound great but trust me...it's amazing!!

I did a pre-christmas dinner for 6 yesterday, with a 2 kilo boned & rolled turkey breast. It all worked out well, the roasties were great, and the gravy was pretty fucking good if I do say so myself. For actual christmas, not sure yet. I might do lamb with cashew nut and mango stuffing

Southern US Christmas dinner: ham, turkey, yams, potato salad, mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, green beans, baked beans, corn bread dressing and something I'm forgetting that's bloody lovely, too.

First time I won't be at home for Xmas, normally I'd cook a chicken and all the trimmings for myself and my sister, my parents would make some veggie curry stuff and then steal all the roast potatoes and veg!

This year I'm at the inlaws and I hear we are having turkey and gammon, result!

Feel a bit bad for my sister having to fend for herself tho, she said something about getting a bag of aunt bessies just in case :(

It's bloody lovely. Beats the crap out that stodgy, brown, boiled rubbish we used to eat.

I remember someone posting this kind of madness last year. Was it you?

I'm not having turkey because I'm bored of it from seeing it twice a day at work and having nothing but turkey for staff dinners during December. And I don't even like it that much anyway. And I never want to see another sprout as long as I live.

So we are having a chicken, with roast potatoes, carrots, braised red cabbage, sage & onion stuffing, proper gravy (no Bisto in my house), and I think I'll cook a small ham too. Probably in cola, and then finish it in the oven with some sort of sugar and mustard glaze. I'll probably do the ham on Christmas Eve, and maybe the cabbage too and then reheat it.

Our friends who are coming for Christmas dinner are bringing sausage meat, pigs in blankets and some other bits and pieces.

No idea what to do for pudding as Rutty is incredibly fussy and won't eat anything containing fruit, and doesn't like bread and butter pudding, so I'll have to get my thinking cap on. I did profiteroles last time, might just do them again as they're easy.

To the OP - guinea fowl is lovely. Not nearly as strong as other game birds though, to be honest it tastes much like chicken.

Quite probably. It's the traditional meal in the South. And don't knock it - it's much more varied and flavourful than a boring old roast turkey with gravy and mash.
