Just came back from the shop with our Christmas food shopping (me and the mrs have ours on the 22nd as she goes down to her folks).
Chicken; roast tatties (although I couldn't find any goose fat for them so going to have to go back); a mass mixture of veg to roast under the chicken; sausages wrapped in bacon; some nice pork, apple, nutmeg etc. stuffing; some back up gravy (if I can't be arsed making proper stuff on the day) and a nice Christmas fruit cake (marzipan!).
Didn't bother with sprouts as I'm the only one that likes them. But might change my mind. -

The capital S on Sugar there immediately made me think of Alan Sugar. And I wasn't even being pedantic! -

Registered 11 years agoSprouts are brilliant. I could eat a whole bowl of them.
Not a fan of stodgy Christmas desserts like Xmas cake/pudding. -

Turkey will be there. Never liked it, I don't think any of my family like it but it's 'traditional'. So there will be an extra meat on the plate that I won't just leave, probably pork. Then it's all about my mum's roast potatoes and pigs in blankets. Served with peas, carrots, parsnips and brussel sprouts.
Will be extra good as I can't remember the last time I went back home for a sunday roast. And mum's is always best. -
See when you say pigs in blankets are you talking sausages wrapped in bacon? The name was used for something completely different when I was growing up. -

What did you call pigs in blankets? -
Hotdog sausages, wrapped in a cheese slice, wrapped in a completely flattened (with a rolling pin) slice of bread with the crusts cut off. Stuck under the grill while it melts. Sounds gross but it is full of win.
Writing that out has just reminded me how poor I was growing up lol. -
Will be doing it Greek-tyle at mine this year. Some boret nibbles to start off with, then a leg of lamb with garlic and lemon, with some roast potatoes, baked stuffed aubergines and salad for main and a berry pudding to finish up with.
So much for tradition... -

Registered 18 years agoThis year we have decided on going for 'Party Food' not the run of the mill Iceland shite; but good quality prawns, oysters, crab, ribs, pies, Wong Tons, curry and rice (kept hot on the hot plate) chicken, cheese and pickles, nuts. Also we are cooking beef, Pork and ham to be served hot with freshly cut stottie cake.
The sweet menu is covered by my Orange trifle and my new cake; Chocolate gateaux: Giant Buttons and Caramel Nibbles covered with Cadbury’s Flake; hopefully I don’t get too pissed and fuck things up.
I have dinners every day and I feel that a large buffet organised well would be a welcomed change. -

GOOOOOOSE
A strong entry for this pissing competition.
Goose with half apricot and pistachio nut and half sausage meat and chestnut stuffings, all roasted veg, pigs in blankets, yorky puds, crispy roasties, proper gravy. Then a fermented plum pudding that I made, and then a cheeseboard and a load of booze.
Yorkies with Christmas dinner is right proper. -

Anyway, being vegetarian means turkey's off the menu. -
