    We ended up having -

Pheasant with pork and apricot stuffing
    Potatoes roasted in goose fat
    Pigs in blankets
    Sprouts
    Honey-glazed parsnips

    It was delicious!

Goose for my family this year. First time I've tried it and is proper delicious, definitely superior to turkey. Couldn't believe how much fat came off it, had to drain it off twice to make sure it didn't overflow the tray. The fat produced some cracking roasties though.

    /starts making goose sandwiches.

    Bump

We're having lamb. I've just boned the leg of lamb (ooo matron, fnaar etc) and I am roasting the bone with some chopped up veggies, rosemary, bay leaves, bit of bacon. Then I'll add a load of water and simmer it all on the hob for a while, strain the bits out and there's my lamb stock ready and prepared for making the gravy tomorrow

I'm doing the cooking like I've always done. So chicken (tried turkey but just not a fan) over a bed of veg which will end up being my favourite bit. Two hours in the over getting slowly roasted with the chicken juices. Roast potatoes -goose fat of course. Packaged stuffing (looks nice though) with sausages wrapped in bacon (!!) and cranberry/mint sauce. If I can be bothered I will attempt gravy with the mashed up veg but otherwise it will be good old bosto

I've never really liked mint sauce tbh, but I'll add some redcurrant jelly and a glug of red wine when i'm reducing the liquid. I find the mint a bit overpowering.

I've got salmon, turkey, beef, ham and crab; I love Prince's spread.

Tescos finest roast potatoes in goose fat (naturally) and a Turkey joint. It's just me so I don't have to do vegetables, although I wish they had some honey roast parsnips.

    My wife is baking today.
Frangipan cherry pies, frangipan mince pies, and there will be fresh mince pies and fresh custard for dessert tomorrow.
Sausage rolls and parma ham pastries.

Today we are having a baked gammon rubbed in some ridiculous blend of spices.

Tomorrow we have a free-range goose (not cheap) with everything you could expect. Heavy on the veg because I love veg. Otherwise, clearly, I would be massively overweight.

Could I recommend a Remoska? They are expensive, but online gossip intimates that when they break, Lakeland are happy to send a replacement (whether they would do so in the current economic climate is the question). However, mine is lasting like a war horse and it is a delight to use.

In a big Remoska you can fit enough roast veg and chicken leg quarters to feed three for a big meal. It cooks quickly, non-messily, and for a low energy cost. Also, it turns out the best roast veg in meat juices ever.

Obviously you don't need one. Still, even so, I wouldn't give mine up without a good reason.

No veg? That's the most depressing thing I've heard this Christmas, and I volunteered in a homeless shelter. In Sierra Leone. On the day when amputee child prostitutes were let out of the rape dungeon.

I've spent Christmas on the streets and I don't like vegetables, so it's not too bad :-)

The amount of Goose fat in this thread makes me a very, very happy man.

We're having a three bird roast, which I've butchered and tied. It's waiting in the fridge now for tomorrow.

    YUM!

Good time to give this a bump.

For the first time I'm not cooking but eating out! Should be an interesting experience. In looking forward to it. It's in a local pub that does really great food and the best mulled wine of which I will be having lots and lots of!

So what's your Christmas dinner this year?

I'll most likely be having one of the following:

A bowl of vegetable soup with some buttered bread
Scottish sausage sandwiches (with cheese & ketchup)
    Cheese on toast
    Pepperoni pizza
    Cheese & onion quiche
A bowl of frosted cornflakes (with sugar on top)
    Microwavable steak pie

A load of shit that's not Christmassy at all, but that's being single, living on your own and having no family around for you. Just another day and all that...

As it turns out our family is doing Xmas eve at my sister's which is 4 hours away. I'm workign the 24th though and I can't be bothered to do a 4 hour trip after work, arriving late for Xmas dinner and then heading back home the next day.

Still undecided whether I should fix myself something or just get some chips or a pizza.
I've got a 3/4 of a bottle of red wine that I opened for friends 2 days ago and a lovely bit of cheese I bought at the market this weekend. So that's dessert sorted.
