    Amen

Whilst my (quartz) Grand Seiko hadn't lost a second when I had to adjust it last time the clocks changed, most of mine are probably plus or minus 5 seconds a day on average, some closer to 10. That's still only a minute a week.

If I'm wanting to make sure I'm on time for something I try and be 5 minutes early anyway so it's never an issue.

Taking the time (no pun intended) to wind and set a watch before wearing it just gives you an oppertunity to appreciate it even more.

None of my watches are ever wound so I’ve no idea what time they keep, I just wind and set before I put it on

That in itself is justification enough imo.

Lange have been teasing a stainless steel sports watch on their Instagram account. Will probably cost about £17K or something.

At the least. Speaking of which, I have never seen the appeal of AP's royal oak series. They just sort of look a bit shit and say nothing more than "look at my money!"

As for the popping the crown thing, I work with a lot of TV people and IATSE union guys and time is needed beyond military precision. I appreciate that's worthless to anyone else though.

Do you guys use your phones as reference to set the correct time?

I have to use GPS time, I'm not certain whether or not phones use the same thing. I think it varies, but for general use I can't see any harm in it. I used to use a multiband 6 g-shock as a reference.

Speaking of accuracy, I'm very into Citizen's caliber 0100. Super pretty and understated ridiculously over engineered quartz. I'm kind of over mechanical watches more and more these days though, I prize accuracy over 'heart' simply because a watch has become more of a tool for me.

Absolutely stunning, would love one but a bit pricey. And a Chronomaster should be good enough (and still damn handsome).

A GS SBGV011 is a nice middle ground though ;)

(Really want a 009 to go with it)

A college of mine has a large royal oak, it's quite nicely made as you'd expect, but is gaudy as fuck.

What's this nonsense about the Royal Oak?! You might not appreciate it but it is an incredibly important watch in horology.

I'll have a Leo Messi one pls

I got a new watch! They are doing one of the Tom Cruise Casio’s at TK Maxx for £24.99

    Hah, nice.

I've bought a movement, dial, case and hands from eBay. Gonna have a go at making my own bespoke watch.

Would be slightly cooler if I had some way / the confidence to stamp or better yet appliqué the dial but it'll still be a watch nobody else has

Gaudy? Richard Mille watches fit that bill in terms of "look at my money!".

Well, I went ahead and ordered a Seiko 5. I blame this thread for piquing my interest, so fuck all of you guys. No seriously, I've been meaning to get a watch that is small, because tiny wrists, and that has a simple black dial. And also I don't have a lot of money.

    A fine choice.

I’m absolutely obsessed with my Milgauss. Sometimes when it catches the sunlight and has this green halo effect and the blue dial really pops I’m just like *spaff* 🍆💦

I haven’t worn a watch in 20 odd years, but the snk809 is so cheap that I won’t be bothered if it turns out to be not for me. Still can’t get my head around how they can make them for this price. It’s a 20 yo movement but still.

Have you had people notice the Milgauss yet Pete? Or even a nod from people in the know?

I feel like everyone should have a Seiko 5. They’re army watches for a reason. Cheap and run forever.

The Urban Gentry would approve. Archie Luxury on the other hand...

So much underwhelming stuff being released these days. The new Lange sports watch. AP CODE 11:59 and the new Breguet Marine are just meh.

I’ve always had a fondness for Breitling but since they got taken over and the guy who used to work for IWC started running things they’ve also gone a bit meh. Going for mass market appeal and looking bland as fuck.

It's fine to buy one watch per year, right?

I saw one of these while killing time before a flight, it is beautiful:

    Hah.

I want a Longines Flagship with the gold hands but they're too delicate for my Popeye forearms. Which is the reason I don't have a classic dress watch

"I'm looking for the kinda watch that would be comfortable squirrelled up inside my colon for an extended stay in a Vietnamese concentration camp. Do you have anything like that?"

Seiko 5 arrived, I like it. I used a program called Time Grapher that uses any microphone connected to the pc to listen for the ticks to determine seconds lost or gained per day. Figured out I could speed it up or slow it down by laying it on one side or the other at night. I know a little bit about engineering and tolerances of mechanical parts, and this thing absolutely blows my mind, especially considering the price point.
