Throughout lockdown Iíve not been wearing my watch as much. Which means the power reserve runs out and it stops. Bit of a pain but as I only have one at the moment, a winder is a waste.

Used to ware a suit to work but now Iím WFH I donít have that ďuniformĒ put on and take off. The watch kind of does that for me at the moment.

Well, if you're going to buy lesbian mermaid porn, you might as well buy £25k's worth.

That's a lot of money for such an idiosyncratic watch.

@beastmaster Which Reverso would you get, assuming you pull the trigger on it?

    @smoothpete

I'm after one of these. A Reverso Classic Large Small Seconds with engravable case-back.

Not only do I love the watches but I've got something I want enabled onto the case-back.

A couple of examples are here below. Cost of which probably won't be far off that off the watch itself.

I had the day off yesterday and had nothing to do so popped into London and had a very lovely day browsing watches I can't afford (and fed some parakeets in Hyde Park because why not).

The watch room in Harrods is something else. I haven't been to Harrods at all since I was a child and it is proper amazing generally (the food halls, fuck me). Such nice things in the watch department. I was just idly browsing the different stores, then the very nice lady in the Lange store who clearly had nothing better to do took pity on me and we had a very interesting and informative chat about brands, process, finishing etc, and she was kind enough to let me try on some truly exceptional watches even though I clearly had no intention of buying anything. She even gave me a loupe to look at the movements. Tell you what, it terms of "grails" (I hate that term), A. Lange & Sohne has got to be it. I think it helped I was wearing a German watch from the same town. Anyway it was great. I'm not about to go sell my house for a watch BUT I get why people pay the money.

I then went to New Bond Street (on the way there a hot drunk girl offered me a strawberry ((paralytic at 1pm, not a good look)), and a homeless guy said I looked cool), and pootled around a bit. I went into the Cartier flagship shop and had a nice chat with the guy there, tried on a Tank Solo XL (didn't like it) and debated the merits of in house vs ETA movements.

Then bought an Oris from the boutique on Molton St because I'm an idiot

    😄

Lange really are very nice arenít they. Had great customer service from the shops in New York and London, letting me try on all sorts. A far cry from a lot of other snooty flagship stores on Bond Street, some bloke in Tiffany really put me off with his attitude a few years ago

Should just be common decency. I get a lot of enquiries from people who apologise immediately for not buying anything, want to come and see me but donít want to waste my time etc - when you sell luxury goods you donít sell many items, Iím bloody grateful of someone whoís interested in the product to talk to about it. Plus to never know whatíll happen down the line, you go away feeling impressed and you might order one day

I feel a lot more inclined towards Lange now, as if itís ever likely to be an option. But it works though, just be nice about it and engage, might be a sale or might not be but at least the brand gets decent word of mouth (exactly and specifically like these posts)

The Zeitwork is.. well euromillions dreaming but Iíd have that fucker in a heartbeat

I read once that Ferrariís strategy is to make sure little kids think theyíre the best cars, so that when they get to their 50s they buy one.

    Long game.

Yes, one of my co-workers father owns a showroom for prestige cars and instructs his sales people to "indulge the dreamers; they may not have the money but one day their children might"

You canít judge a book by its cover anyway, not in this day and age. Iíll always remember this really quiet guy shuffling in to see me, could barely get a word out of him. Eventually asked if it was his first bespoke commission and he burst into laughter. Turned out his family business basically has the monopoly on tin canning in the US, he reeled off a list of makers heíd been to around the world, half of which Iíd never even heard of
