Wasn't it the French that invented modern jam / fruit preservation techniques? After the French revolution, there was a burgeoning food industry, and industrialisation of preserves was one of them, I believe.

I mean, who wouldn’t choose Bonne Maman preserves over almost any other option?

Although, the Amish near me in Pennsylvania make a bloody killer jam, tis true. I wonder if life in Britain will revert to an Amish state of life?

Death merchants BAE systems have been shamed into backing out of sponsoring a major arts festival here in the north east.

They say they'll direct funds towards something more in line with their brand identity or something like that instead.

What sort of event would that be?

My wife also has zero fucking clue there was anything apparently special about British jam until I told her that Tiptree tasted ok in terms of how jam tastes. I remember going to a Monoprix a few years ago and in among the international delicacies section was a little British shelf. All it had was marmite, oxo cubes, PG tips and shit like that. Going to be a tough marketing push to fill those holes in a the GDP with our glorious jam

@simpleexplodingmaybe My missus got put forward for a job at BAE by a recruitment agent. They got back in touch and told her they couldn't hire her because has two Nigerian parents and that it didn't matter that she was was born here and has only been to Nigeria twice for a total of 4 weeks.

They looked at her CV and said actually, you seem like a really talented person, a first Mathematics degree from a good uni...OK maybe we could make you a contractor but you'd need a thorough background check and we wouldn't be able to pay you as much as a staff role.

She belly laughed and told them to fuck themselves.

Have you seen their gender pay statistics?

96% of women get bonuses but they're HALF the size of the bonuses the men get.

Tells you all you need to know really.

War mongering centrist self-promoting wannabe-Tory skid marks.

    Deselect them all.

Mad how "gather evidence and make evidence-based conclusions, follow proper procedures, uphold human rights and respect the rule of law" always goes out the window when there's an opportunity for the state to blow some people up

There is no opportunity to blow people up, a war with Russia would utterly destroy us within days and our leaders are fully aware of this. There was a report done to say that Russia could capture the entire Balkans within 3 days as NATO is woefully under prepared to deal with it. Measures have been put in place since then to improve the situation but still not enough. Also Russia has need for London as a lot of its money is laundered there and the money that keeps Putin where he is comes from the people doing it. No doubt its going to get more tense but its a long way away from people getting blown up.

We aren’t going to do shit to Russia. This is all about trying to get enough people in the ‘international community’ to speak out with us against them and them hopefully slide into the background without looking too stupid.

    @Frogofdoom

I think it would be fairier to say anyone having a war with Russia would distroy us all. NATO would hardly stand back after all, and everyone knows that. They might be unprepared but the force is still sizable.

Trident is designed to shore up our national ego and justify our position on the UN security council.

Also there is the current risk of the US withdrawal from NATO, which would be a bit of a problem.

I do think that even if they know its Russia they should be doing it the right way. There are set guidelines for how these situations should be dealt with and we are not above them. What's the issue with following them?

Ironically cancelling Brexit would probably be the best way to piss off Putin.

Are you forgetting that we are GREAT Britain? We don't follow guidelines.
