Registered 11 years agoI don't think it's marketing material, it looks more likely to be a PowerPoint shown to developers. It mentions the SDK in the slide, so I'd guess that the console shown there is the development kit and not the final console itself. -
So March 2012 Japanese launch, holiday season EU/US launch.
16 Core PowerPC CPU, unknown GPU and 16gigs of shared ram.
Touch screen controllers if you don't like WiiMote waggling.
E3 is going to be mental this year

Registered 17 years agoI don't mind a wee (no pun intended) gimmick. So long as they go back to having a normal non-waggle controller at the heart of it.
I fully expect MS to announce their new console now at E3. Sonly will be busy with their NGP. -

Registered 15 years agoNah I would be super surprised if either MS or Sony announced a new console at E3. Not after just launching Kinect/Move. It's too much to ask of people.
I think Wii2 will have at least a year head start on the others, probably a good few years. -
I have to wonder what developers make of this.
Say the new Nintendo is 10 times more powerful than the 360/PS3 but the 720/PS4 come out and are twice as powerful again there'd be a strong case for publishers and developers to build around the lowest common denominator.
Nintendo releasing first could set a new normal and make the 360 and PS3's power struggle pointless apart from their first-party releases. -

the rumours dont suggest such specs - more closer to teh Xbox 360 and ahead in some ways, behind in others. Maybe even using slight updates of the same compontents. -

Current rumours are 3 Core PowerPC at a higher clock speed than 360, a high spec RX700 GPU and around 512 RAM. -

Needs more than 512MB that's fo dam sho aaaaand hopefully something better than a poxy 4770 n'all! o_0
Screw the casual market and get back to proper gaming. Put out something beastly and tempt third-party devs/publishers back! Include a versatile and easy to use online system 'cause that's what the kids like and there ya go. -
It's not a PC you bellend!!!

Registered 20 years agoThe design of the case is going to be the interesting thing for me. The 360 was pushing the thermal limits when it came out, which is probably the main reason so many of the damn things fell over. The gamecube used a pretty clever design that (IIRC) separated the CPU and GPU with a mahoosive heatsink and large fan which gave it its unusual shape. By the time the Wii came around, that tech had been shrunk to such a degree that it didn't produce nearly as much heat, and they could put it (plus a tiny bit more) inside a relatively slim case without cooking the insides.
Nintendo could make a 360++ and therefore put it in a compact slim case using modern tech, but the rumours aren't suggesting that. The rumoured xbox style case was only that shape because of the internal PSU and the relative complexity of the motherboard. A properly designed games console shouldn't need a big motherboard, unless heat is a massive concern.
Edit: One fan does not a fan array make -
grr! -_- -

The 4770 sounds fine, if true, we're not going to be playing above 1080p so it shouldn't be a bottleneck like the ram could be. -
Christ on a bike, it doesn't have Windows, Linux or OSX running in the background you know. -

I know, but it would be nice to give developers a bit of headroom over previous consoles. -
Or reasonably modern mobiles. -
For a start, it's not confirmed and secondly you've no idea how it interacts with the rest of the system.
Historically Nintendo have always had stupidly fast ram. -

This. Nintendo could be making quite a shrewd move here. I think 3rd parties would like to put their stuff onto Nintendo's console but it would take too much work due to the tech constraints and the effort required for the motion controller, not to mention Nintendo's consoles not being about those sorts of games.

Iwata said about 5 years ago that we're reaching the limit of graphical achievement so don't expect it to be that much more powerful than the PS3/360. -

Has the 'Vitality Sensor' been delayed for Wii in order to include it in 'Project Café', much like Zelda was? And, er, will Zelda again be a dual-format release for both Wii in SD and 'Project Café' in SD? Ooh, and will we see dual-format disc releases from Nintendo where the disc contains both the Wii and 'Project Café' versions? So many questions, so few answers...
