The 3rd partys will make or break this i reckon. -

Registered 18 years agoStill, it'd be nice to own a Nintendo console and not feel like you're missing out.
Edit: Which is not really possible with the other consoles actually. -

Hopefully. -

Registered 16 years agoIf this new Nintendo console has a 12-18 month headstart on the other two's next gen offerings, will third party developers really want to put all that extra time/work/money into making games for it that will, performance wise, blow the other two current consoles away?(Especially as the install base would be relatively low over that period) Can't see it myself, which is a bit of a problem, if its graphics are supposedly that ahead of everything else.
Exclusives might be great, but what about multi platform stuff? -

Registered 15 years agoIf it really is ahead of the other two consoles, then it will still be able to play anything on them. It will probably have the better version; even though the Xbox 1 was better than the PS2, there was still multiplatform games.
The point is that when there's Nintendo exclusive titles, that's when the real improvements will be seen. -

Wonder what they'll call this one? They love the retro theme at the moment so maybe the SWii. Or the 3Dii in line with the 3DS. I wouldn't be surprised if they just called it the Nintendo. Just the use of the brand.
It'll likely have a shit name. Most consoles have shit names. Except the MEGA DRIVE. Or the MASTER SYSTEM. Saturn and Dreamcast were shit names. Fucking SEGA. If they called them the EXPLOSIVE SATURN or the UBER DREAMCAST or something, I'd have been impressed.
Magnavox Odyssey was an awesome name. It's a shame Magnavox merged into Philips as it sounds awesome and futuristic. Philips sounds shit, what were they thinking? Yeah, the Odyssey. Taking you to places in gaming you've never been.
Playstation is a crap name. Oh, come and play on my Playstation. XBox is just fucking retarded. Sticking 360 on the end didn't make it any less retarded.
Turbografx 16 - now that's a console name. Also Super Nintendo, badass. -

Registered 11 years agoI wonder why Nintendo don't buy a couple of studios or commission devs to games for their systems. I am sure they have enough cash for that sort of thing. -

Registered 14 years agoSo, who else thinks Project Cafe hints at the possibility of the six inch screen being a detachable tablet that you can bring with you to the cafe or other places for social games or StreetPass functionality. -

Registered 15 years agoMaybe the controller IS the console? You plug it into your tv to play big HD games off at the home, then take it away with you - or more likely, detach a large part of it to take away with you - for portable gaming?
But then, I can't see Nintendo competing with themselves in the hand held market too much. The detachable part won't be anything that rivals the 3DS I don't think.
Hmm. So very intriguing! Gah I just want to know what it is

Registered 14 years agoI don't think it would be the console itself necessarily, but I do think you'll be able to play simple games on it (although no multitouch is a bit of a downer). Mostly it will be StreetPass functionality and possibly social media integration though. I think that is what Iwata means with aiming at the western market. Not HD per se (although the ability will be there), but creating a hip and social gadget that's integrated with the home console. -

Registered 18 years agoThat's quite interesting, but again - why would they compete with their own handheld? -

Registered 14 years agoWell if they go this route then I don't think the games you can download onto the controller will be anywhere near the quality of 3DS games (and definitely not 3D), and will probably only function as part of the console game. More akin to the pedometer in Pokemon for instance.
edit: and maybe the 3DS gets an update, or even has the latent ability, to act as a Wii2 controller +. -

Registered 15 years agoTbh, I would love the ability in something like an RPG to be able to level up my characters on the bus or something, then load them back into the game when I get home. But the 3DS itself could easily be used for that. -

Registered 14 years agoBut the Gameboy color already had accelerometer enhanced games too before the Wii was even thought up
. I think the 3DS is more aimed towards kids and traveling people, and with the home consoles Nintendo will be targeting families more, and are now going after extended family spaces. Or something marketable.
Could be wrong of course. -

I heard Nintendo sacrifice 2 virgins for every Wii sold hence the sales slacking off. -
An interesting tidbit. Still will be taking it with a grain of very fine salt
Also, if it is true... they're considering calling it Stream? After naming their previous console Wii? That can't be some sick coincidence...
