I reckon there will be a massive plotline cull in the first couple of episodes, just to make the remaining ones a bit more manageable.
They've pretty much done that, haven't they? The last series followed like six, maybe seven people and everyone else either died in the church or got shanked by Arya.
True, but there's still quite a a bit to go imo.

Though it does help that people are more or less in the same place now. It took them superhuman feats of teleportation, but they managed to bring most of the characters together.

Been watching the first few seasons again to try and remember who's who. Not sure why people seem to say the later seasons are a bit unstructured, but these early ones, fuck me there's some bizarre character motivations.

For example the tall knight chap with the boobs who always looks like they're about to cry is apparently loyal to the fruity brother of the former fat king...until he dies, and then switches immediately, fervently and unwaveringly to Sean Bean's wife for no real reason. Despite Jean Bean fucking up every single decision

Iím halfway through rewatching season 1 for much the same reason. The most alarming thing is Littlefingerís accent.

    @Zomoniac
Those are the seasons he forgets he is Irish! In the latter ones it is a devil's own job to stop him go full on Riverdance while drinking Guinness and playing the Bodhran

@DUFFMAN5 itís really jarring. Just watched S7, and jumping back to S1 is is so weird.

Also, despite the fact that I find small children highly annoying in all contexts, climby Bran is a lot less detestable than wizard Bran.

Now TV are doing a deal where you can get a 3 month entertainment pass for £18, down from £25.

I got an email from them as a former subscriber.

Great timing for new GoT .

Sansa has been detestable from the outset. I hope hers is a grisly death. The worst characters have so far survived:

    Her
    Bran
    Porky dragon lady
    Tall knight chap with boobs
    Alfie Allen

All of them need killing for various crimes of being in boring storylines, having massive character changes or just generally being unlikeable

Most shops do NowTV cards for two months for £10 as a nornal price. Used to just be three for £15 and 5 for £25 but the new option makes things nice and cheap. WH Smith is one shop that stocks them. Possibly available on CDkeys too.

We rewatched the entire series last winter. It's so much easier to keep track of the billion storylines and characters and places and factions when watching it back to back, rather than over the course of 6 years.

Is Now TV doing 1080p 5.1 yet, like what we've been consuming since 2006?

Pirating does feel so grundgy nowadays somehow with streaming services etc.

I don't have sky so I think I'm just going to buy the boxset later this year. I'd prefer to watch it in one unhealthy marathon anwyay.

Brienne is a great character, I think you are confusing her with the under used gwendoline Christie in the star wars films! 😊

For me, Bran definitely belongs at the top of that list. He was annoying before he had sex with a tree and became an all seeing God, but since then he's just become an absolutely insufferable prick. At least Sansa brings some, admittedly irritating, eye candy even if she is an appallingly naive damsel in distress stereotype.

Yeah, he got his sausage cut off. I think the actor is fine though.

Not long to go now. I'm looking forward to the end, even though I think the show has gone a bit off the rails since it overtook the books.

It's far better than the paper based version is going to be. I'm not reading 1000's of pages of pointless side stories to get to the same ending.

    You probably won't
    A) ever be able to read it (I don't thing RR Martin will write more stuff about Westeros)
    B) get the same ending (even if he DOES write an end it won't be the same as the TV show)

    He'll never finish it.

But the thing that the books (and the earlier seasons of the show) had going for them is that they cared more about consequences, and less about crowd-pleasing.

If (for example) Cersei had blown up the church earlier in the show, there would have been repucussions rebounding through multiple episodes, even a whole season. But it happened in season 6, so nobody gave a shit. Just some cool explosions, a good moment.

I still like it, and care about the characters and what happens to them. But I don't find the show nearly as interesting as I used to.

The church explosion was purely for the TV show to clear the decks for the final run in. Everyone not relevant to the A Plot was gone in a heartbeat.

GRRM would never sacrifice that many side plots in one hit.

The church. Gone. Marge. Gone. Tommen. Gone. All the Tyrells. Gone. A load of B-tier Lannisters. Gone.

The books are never going to wrap all of that up in one explosion.
