Most are longer episodes though, it'll be fine.

True, I'm concerned that regardless of how long they are that they'll struggle wrapping it up in a satisfying way though. 7 seasons we wait for the WW to do anything and in one they'll presumably be defeated and everything else resolved. We'll see though.

Does Euron have any actual character motivations beyond wanting to bang Cersei?

I like Euron. It's good to have some uncomplicated characters on the show.

Love Bronn too. I loved that his reaction to "hey, could you kill a couple of your friends for me" was less severe than "oh yeah, and one of the women you just slept with probably has an std".

I assume the long section after the credits is a "next time on GoT"?

Didn't want to watch it as I figured I'd just wait.

Its an interview with the directors, I believe.

Euron is terrible none of his motivations make sense, he only seems to exist to give Yara, Cersei and Alfie Allen something to do.

As a self certified book wanker its an abject disappointment because Euron is an utter badass in the books. When they announced Ian McShane had been cast in same series Euron was introduced I sure he would be playing the part. Instead we get a standard sadistic pervy wanker #7

I assume Bran will be sat there for the remainder of the show, serving up knowing looks to everyone between going afk and shuffling the plot along because he knows there's only 5 more episodes.

Took me a while to click that he was talking about Jaime with the "old friend" line.

I was half expecting him to just say "you're fucking your auntie" when Jon came up and hugged him. Kid doesn't seem to have much use for tact.

Euron is another cartoonishly shit bad guy, and completely meaningless. Seems the only reason he exists was to bring ships to fetch a pointless army and extend the equally meaningless Cersei scenes.

The way the show has filtered down and prioritised a scant few makes it pretty obvious what's going to happen. I just sigh and look at my phone instead of trying to pay attention to these filler scenes.

I dunno, he's one of the few actors on the show who looks like he's having any fun at all.

Actually, this episode was probably the least dour the show has been in ages (screaming kids in burning arm pinwheels aside). It's all set-up for the horrors to come, of course, but it's nice to see some people smiling for a change.

The screaming meat wheel was a bold look, but Euron sneering and chewing the scenery wasn't a high point.

He was filler as well though, just better written because they had to squeeze a entire season out of him while they waited for the last book.

Was Euron not in the books till later on? I always hear about how he is a mad, bad cunt in the books, but in the show he seems like tacked on rubbish.

I liked his actor in that Overlord movie too.

What's the significance of the pattern of the screaming kid? Tree roots? Shit plot? Zombie graffiti for "Sansa is a cunt"

It's the spiral insignia that the white walkers have been leaving in their path of destruction which is in itself a reference to the stones surrounding the Weirwood tree where the Children of the Forest created the first White Walker.

One thing is for sure, fatty needs to finish those books as its plot has veered so far away I would like to know how it ends there as well.

So... they cut the number of episodes to help with the budget on each right? Because those dragons looked worse than usual this time around.

Other than that, pretty good episode, it was nice to see everyone in one place. I hope we donít get 2 or 3 more talky episodes though as I feel stuff just needs to happen now.

Standard reintroduce every major character 1st episode imo. Good stuff was always going to follow.

Thought it was a very good lead episode. Nicely cranked up the ass temps.

The talky bits have always been the best part IMO. Season 7 was crap because the dialogue appeared to be written by 15 year old boys and the rest was directed by Michael Bay.

This one felt a bit more like the good old days.

I enjoyed it. Decent first episode I thought, and they need to set things up. Even with a shorter season it'd be a bit rushed if they just dived in.

I liked how it mirrored the first episode, with the army arriving and some kid climbing to get a better look, and I like that the political machinations haven't been jettisoned entirely (yet).

I'm glad they got his parentage out of the way early doors rather than poncing about giving furtive looks at each other.

I reckon they will be done with the white walkers by episode 3 and the last two will be the actual three way game of thrones.

I'd be really happy with that, the night king zombie bollocks has been one of the least interesting aspects of the show.

Admittedly it might be a bit weird with a threat that's simmered away for seasons to suddenly erupt then get put down rather quickly, but I'm more interested in what happens afterwards.

The worst thing that could happen is a neat happy ending.
