Anyone know my rights(ebuyer refunds)

  • Deleted user 10 March 2011 09:23:52
I returned a TV to ebuyer that cost £299.99 on 15th March 2010. Late feb this year it conked out and I returned it. The model was discontinued so I was told I would get a refund of £299.99(they quoted the amount)> However the refunded amount is £257.55, when I phoned to chase it up I was told that I was only entitled to a partial refund, despite being told it would be the full amount previously. Had I been told all along it would only be a partial refund I would be unhappy but accepted it, I am absolutely pissed at being lied to about it.

If you've got it in writing from them that they'd refund you £299.99, then take it up with them again. If you get no joy, I'd suggest Citizens Advice Bureau, and then dependng on what they say, Trading Standards Office.

Is that the price minus VAT? Sounds like a fast one to me

I dont have it in writing, only what was said on the phone. My ebuyer ledger also shows I had £299.99 credit, of which £257.55 was deducted and now it is zero.

Either way, pretty sure it has to be a full refund. Check out consumerdirect.

To be honest I'm far more angry about being blatently lied too then pretty much being accused of making it up than the loss of the £40ish. Although it does mean I have £40 less to spend on its replacement. Having looked through my account more closely I think I know what has happened. I sent the TV back and it automatically put the order in for a replacement, however the TV is discontinued(2009 model). That order had a value of £257.55. To me it looks like someone has mistakenly done a refund from that order(which never shipped) instead of my original order and now are lieing to avoid owning up to it. I was also told it was in the terms and conditions, I have since looked and it isn't. I've sent an email explaining what I think has happened and hopefully get a more honest and helpful CS rep. I also pointed out that the T&C say nothing about partial refunds. They are sooo slow at replying to emails(3 days usually) butgiven their dishonesty so far I think having everything in writing is a good idea. Also any longer on their 10p/minute line and it will end up costing me money even if they do end up refunding the difference.

Well they won't budge and refuse to accept that I was told it would be a full refund. Wouldn't recommend shopping with them, they cant be trusted to tell you the truth. I certainly wont be.

+1 - but this is with Dabs/BT Shop

The deal is that they were happy to RMA a broken 5850 card (£200 refund) and they arrange pickup from my place of work. Their courier, DHL, has lost the package on route - or at least it hasn't shown up in the Dabs returns office and they're asking me for a collection receipt. Well front desk at my workplace are saying that it was collected and that they don't remember a receipt. It appears without a receipt they won't do anything and apparently won't contact DHL to see if there's an electronic version of the receipt. It pisses me off because if I had chosen my own courier I would be able to claim off the postal insurance. Presumably DHL comes with insurance and Dabs or myself would be able to claim off that?

Lesson learned to not rely on others I guess. I'd always want to hand the package over myself. FWIW, I had to send a Kindle back via DHL and got a receipt.

Hmmm, about 3 years ago my mate's (fairly rubbish) TV died after about 5 months and he bought that from eBuyer.

They sent him a rather decent Samsung as a replacement (don't think they had the same model in stock). Not sure if he paid the difference in price though.
